Was on my LGW-MAN commute last night and I'd never seen so many silver tags dangling from the overhead bins in my life. When they called gold/silvers to board, half the plane got in line and that excluded the non silver/golides who were booted out of line.
Even more so, I was on the LHR-MIA flight the other week and saw a whole bunch of cabin crew with silver bag tags. How does that work? I've started noticing this more and more with BA cabin crew with these days.
Is it a perk of the job?
You can't earn status on non-rev flights and I doubt BA cabin crew would fly rev-fare for leisure.

Just an observation.
I suspct BD matching has temporarily increased by quite a few the number of BA Silver and Golds.

Many cabin crew and pilots commute to UK and European destinations.
They can use staff travel but many prefer to buy a revenue ticket and be sure of getting on the flight. Therefore they become members of the EC just like any other frequent flyer.
Some use a combination of both types of tickets depending on the passenger loads etc.

There are many silvers out there, mainly due to it being actually quite easy to achieve.
Yes I've frequently read on here that a couple of JER-IAD-JER itineraries a year flying on SALE bought WT+ tickets UuA to CW will almost maintain your Silver status.

I did make Gold, but that was two years ago... And, I only did that to benefit from the soft landing to retain status the following year as I would not be doing much revenue flying as I was on a burning year... I will always maintain Silver for the lounge and seat selection, plus addition Avios benefit, but not sure I will go any higher than that unless I am particularly bored one year...

Never quite understood why people want to show their frequent flier bling quite so blatantly as using the bag tags. Always strikes me as a bit DYKWIA.
Mine hides in a Smythson tag, and placed back to front. If I have to check my wheelie in, I'd like to have a ready identification on it, but without the address. That's why it's there.
