New plates?

Recently been on a BA flight from LHR to HKG, and notice that BA changed this plates, or the so-called 'chargers' from BA's view. When did this take place? It actually looks more classy and modern than the old circle ones.

Hi JALlover, Do you mean the Club World plates? BA has been trialling some new menus and service options (such as no table cloth and new plates) on some routes for around 6 months now I believe...

The new plates (in CW) are not universally rolled out yet...just some routes.

How did you like them (and no table cloth)? What was the food like?

Hi BotB, yes I mean the Club World plates. I was served with the rectangular plates for the 1st and 2nd hot meal, which was quite a surprise and gives the cabin a fresh look in terms of products.

I was going to HKG as I said, and is not the ones your picture shows. And they did have tablecloth for both of the meals, both being white.

It seems that they have gone ahead and changed the chargers and plates to square ones that are similar to ones used during the trial (Japanese Nobu plates)
Not that they have told us, they just arrived onboard.

They're not square, but rectangular, and don't look much like the Nobu plates/chargers at all. We were all (pleasantly) surprised too. Much easier to deal with and the food looks much better presented in it.

It seems that as the A380 and 787 are being delivered with the ATLAS standard galley equipment and not the normal Longhaul BA designed galleys that some of the china and crew equipment also needs to be changed as they do not fit the smaller ATLAS trolley and box stowages.

The product development people have taken this opportunity to update/improve the china it seems, though as CIHY mentions crew have not been told this, they just were loaded on board without any notice to those delivering them.

The Club ones look quite nice.

I really don't get the desperate need for a bread plate, two of the most up market restaurants in London I have had the pleasure of visiting recently do not have bread plates. (The Ivy and Delaunay)

It must be trendy not to have them. On board it must save a lot of weight and therefore fuel.

Sorry I got this slightly wrong, I haven't personally seen these, my wife is on a trip and told me that they were like the Japanese plates.
She is working in First and did say the new starter/dessert/cheese plates are smaller amd the food doesn't present as well.
So some good news and some bad.

In which case I acknowledge the dual attack of "Trendy" and "Argentinian Custom".

I shall now try to persuade my wife, family and friends to eat from the tablecloth - with predictable responses.

This is a BRITISH airline, not some offshoot of a trendy cellar for Yuppies (or whatever they are printably called these days) or some Gaucho diner. And Harrumph.

That's interesting. The ones on the midhaul Airbus flights are rectangular in order that they fit in the Airbus ovens. I wonder if these are the same.

Perhaps it works for those who slice the roll in half, butter each side and then eat it like a sandwich?

Breaking off small, mouth-sized, pieces before buttering and eating them creates an unholy mess on a tray/tablecloth. That is why bread plates are provided in decent (non-trendy) establishments.

If you wish to consume the rest of your meal with breadcrumbs surrounding you, feel free. I don't, and my tacky local AA 5-red Star and Michelin establishments where we dine occasionally don't either. Perhaps BA is the cutting edge of taste? Or parsimony?

Probably more to do with there not being enough room on the tray for a bread plate I imagine.
