BA to lease two B777-300ERs from ALS

Just read this article....

British Airways is to lease two new B777-300ER aircraft from Air Lease Corporation under a ten-year agreement, with the aircraft set to be delivered in May and July next year.

The two B777s form part of a larger ALS order agreed with Boeing in 2011.

Feel free to move to another thread if already discussed ^

Cheers B

Ps will be in GC LHR on 1st Feb from 3pm if anyone is about or fancys showing me the GF or CCR:D

Is this additional or does it form part of the four 77Ws that are outstanding?

Are these exercised options from the last lot or completely fresh orders?

I think they are in lieu of 787s. The last IAG update had 787 deliveries to 2015 reduced from 16 to 12 and an extra 4 777s.

Dirt cheap then, if you can call anything with a $300 million list price that^

I'm pretty sure the additional 4 aircraft were reported to be delivered in two batches - 2 in Oct this year and 2 in Oct next year. Unless the third and fourth are being brought forward to middle of next year, these sound like new orders taking the total number to 12.

Definitely sound like new orders as the 777-36NERs are leased from GECAS, hence the 6N customer code.

Now then, you are not going to get BA to fly a 777 to NQY ever if you offer to buy the plane. :D

~Is this good news... or not??

~ I am aware that BA are very happy with the economics of the 777W......

~And some of us value CornishSimon's input would be happy if Brymon were resurrected as a BA Franchise flying a twice daily Dash8-4 in BA colours from LHR. Those were the days.....

G-STBA/F are 777-336ERs (BA owned); BB/BC/BD/BE are leased

I was aware of the 2 BA owned 777-336s, hence why I specifically referred to the leased aircraft as 777-36NERs.
The point I was making was that BA's leased 777-36NERs including the remaining 4 of the previous announcement are/will be leased from GECAS, these latest ones are being leased from ALC suggesting that these are a new batch.

I wonder if the new leases are being paid for by Boeing?

Exactly the point I made yesterday or the day before in the thread about possible further delays to 787 deliveries.

Nothing to do with BA flying anywhere South of London at all.

In yesterdays thread the point i was trying to make is that i can see more 77Ws coming along if and when more delays to the 787 deliveries are announced, ie as part of a compo package from Boeing.

So far am i correct in thinking that Boeing have had to cough up for the 767 refresh for 14/21 examples as well as the leases on 4 77Ws ?

More likely that they got the 77Ws at bargain basement prices
