LAX-JFK normally uses three-class birds, so you would be in business class. Eppley to Dallas will be first.

Out of interest, for those booking via BA call centre onto AA flights - what's the benefit in doing it this way over just booking direct with AA's website?

Ticketed by BA might be an advantage, perhaps?

Some complex routes and/or mixed classes are a lot easier to book on the phone (I've booked Y positioning flights and Instant Upgrade fares all in one this way) ... read out what you want flight by flight, rather than fighting with AA's multi-city search boxes...

OK, thanks - food for thought!

Avios earning. In business class, the cabin bonus is 25% on AA coded flights; 50% on BA coded flights. In first, it is 50% and 100% respectively

Do you get extra Avios on AA flights booked through BA using a BAPP card?

Are AA flights booked through BA issued on 125 or 001 stock?

Yes* and yes

Tickets issued by BA on 125 stock also have slightly looser UuA restrictions (if that is important)

* when all sectors are booked under BA's code

Ahh OK - but I thought you had to book the A fare as AA coded flights to get the higher TPs?

As for your questions, layz - my guess would be yes to bonus Avios as it will show as a BA transaction and that BA would issue on their own 125 stock.

Tier point accrual is the same irrespective of code; Avios earning differs. See here for more info.

Thanks, Prospero - sounds like the way to go then. Apart from the need for non-Golds to have to persuade BA not to charge them an offline fee it sounds like you're better doing it that way than via AA.com then - why say no to bonus Avios?!

PS - seems at least a bit less of a lottery than it is with Star Alliance where you've no idea what fare basis your codeshare flight will book into with the operating carrier and that's what matters with them when it comes to earning miles!

I couldn't quite match the stunning audacity of that ex-LUX route. What dates in March gave that fare in matrix?

I was able to throw together a run at the end of February:

28/02 BRU-LHR-JFK-LAX (I/I/I)
02/03 LAX-LAS-MIA-SJU /A/A/I)
03/03 SJU-JFK-LHR (I/I)

with fare codes
I7SALE BRU-LAX
MCE5UP21 LAX-SJU
I4UKJB1 SJU-LHR

Total fare: £1,686.62

This would return 40+140+140+40+140+40+40+140=720 TP, for a cost of £2.343/TP.

All booked using "Premium Economy". Both TATL legs in booking code I.

For the same class of booking, Prospero may be correct, but this isn't the full story.

If you book a J fare which involves a US domestic connection on AA metal them BA.com will book you on the BA codeshare and sometimes this books into I even if it is a 2-class plane. Business doesn't exist on these aircraft, it's Economy or First, but BA will give you Business TPs not First TPs if you get booked into I, even though you're flying First*

However, AA(.com) will book you into A using the AA code on the very itinerary, often for the very same price, and this definitely gets you more TPs!

Try this out on e.g. LHR-JFK-SEA-JFK-LHR
* on BA.com it was going to book JFK-SEA into I and SEA-JFK into F (not A) for some random reason (fewer TPs). Flight BA5704 is a codeshare for AA269.
* same dates on AA.com, same JFK-SEA-JFK flights, "correct" booking class = more TPs.

Hopefully on-topic for this thread.

AA appear to be cutting Caribbean routes according to some recent threads in another place, e.g.

AA Cancels 8 More SJU Routes - Hub Closed

I don't see anything on the AA FT forum, but I haven't delved into any of their mega-threads.

I can get a similar price to the OP using sample dates 7/3/12-14/3/12 out of either LUX or BRU in business. Great fare for 1200TPs!
