What's my best bet for a same day TP run originating and ending in MCO? Any time between 10th-18th March.

Aiming for 500+ TPs so Mrs. W can hit gold. Not a problem if it's not possible, just thought it was worth asking the question.

Is it safe to book a LGW-JER with immediate JER-LGW return (only 35 mins between flights), from everything I've read this is (always?) the same aircraft - for example BA2774 out and BA2775 back:

Code:
LGW London Gatwick UK [EGKK]
JER Jersey JE [EGJJ]
FRI 25 Jan 2013 - 01 Feb 2013

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Frequency | Dur'n | Dep T | Arr T | Effect | Ending | Exceptions
--------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- ----------------------------------------------------------------
BA 2774 LGW 16:30 JER 17:25 734 0 1234567 00:55 N - 31 Dec 28 Mar

Code:
JER Jersey JE [EGJJ]
LGW London Gatwick UK [EGKK]
FRI 25 Jan 2013 - 01 Feb 2013

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Frequency | Dur'n | Dep T | Arr T | Effect | Ending | Exceptions

Hi,

You could do

MCO-MIA-LAS ( or LAX) rtn for 270 e/w ( 540 in total)
MCO-LAS or LAX would be 210 each way 420 in total

The return LAS/LAX MCO may need to be done on the overnight flight back for the same day ( or stay overnight in LAS or LAX)

Do not know about the cost.

Regards

Regarding the chart "AA domestic city pairs > 2000 nm", I think it would be useful to include JFK-SEA too. Quite a convenient route for a TP-run earning 420TP and the cost involved (around GBP 600-650) is usually lower than other transcons.
Yes this is a great route, not the least because it's one of the few transcons (only?) that AA operate with a two class plane. That means when you tack it on to a TATL sector in CW you will sit in/earn F TPs for J money. At least when you book the BA codeshares, an LHR-JFK-SEA & return trip = silver card in one go. Especially good value when there's a sale on.

Yep, I've booked WTP but only to UUA for CW. Ended up in F on the way out due to an op-up.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Debating a night in LAS, as the flights times are reasonable going via MIA.

Yes it's safe you can normally get off the plane straight into the lounge then reboard a few mins later. The only risk at JER is if the plane does not get in due to fog, but then they both get cancelled, just mucks up the day.

A slight word of caution here. The morning MIA-LAX flight is a 3 class B777 with lie flat beds. When I booked a through ticket SJU-MIA-LAX-HNL on a A fare,it booked into First on the B777.A very nice flight.
When I tried to start the same trip MIA-LAX-HNL the A fare only booked into business class,so only gave 140 tier points instead of 210.
It is possible for the upgrade to book into a lower class on a 3 class, which doesn't happen if it is just a middle sector.Booking on AA.com will show up the class,so you can avoid this trap.No such problem occurs on the 2 class domestic a/c.
LAS-MIA on a 2 class B757 is only 4 hours,so not much sleep.
If SJU-HNL-SJU is pricing out over 750,you could look at SJU-MIA-LAX-HNL-LAX-LAS-MIA MGA open jaw, which also prices quite cheaply some month.
MGA is not much to write home about, but the Hilton or the Intercon are survivable. The MGA Hilton had the fastest WiFi I have ever seen.Beats HKG by miles. That was a big surprise.

OH now says she wants to go to Vegas in March, so priced up WT+ through my mate who can use hot-deals and it's 800 each, but only 180 TP's, and I need 240. Is there a routing that will get the required points but keep us flying in the same class for most of the way? Don't mind dropping down to Y for a couple of hours. I am prepared to pay a bit more because I will save the 540 it was going to cost me to do the TP run in May. We were looking at the middle/late March with at least 7 nights

Yes, I UuA's from WTP to CW, have done quite a few times - combined with Silver/Gold TP bonus its an amazing deal Avios-wise (even better if you get op-uped of course!!)

I looked into both on A fares, instant upgrade, which only upgrades 1 class. But the through fare SJU-MIA etc seems to jump into F for the B777 on AA277.
The first special was a lot more expensive.

Do you mean a hotline ticket? If so, according to a previous post on here, that can extend the routing from eu at no extra cost which would add at least 20 TPs. If you start from JER that will add 80 TPs and appears to cost less than from LON. Routing via NYC would add 35 TPs each way but then you'd add an extra 5 hours in Y from NYC-LAS.

Someone did have some bother in Aruba as he mentioned it in his trip report and I'm sure BingBongBoy had a bit of questioning at one point as well.

Suppose it depends on where you go. A single male traveller popping over to somewhere popular for drug smuggling may make alarm bells ring.
Aruba was me. Well it wasn't Aruba, it was Bermuda that gave me a hard time, as mentioned towards the end of this trip report:
BAEC Tier Point Run on American Airlines - a confession

The crazy thing was that Bermuda was not on the TP run (that was Aruba), I went to BDA for legitimate work reasons. Her Majesty's Immigration in Bermuda found TP Runs conceptually difficult to understand, even on a UK passport. A further irony was that I only did the TP run for bragging rights here, and to burn up an AA credit note - I didn't need the TPs. I had no problems getting in and out the USA, though I have a magnificent collection of their stamps in my passport.
