BAEC... Alternative to Silver/Gold Partner Card please!

Dear BAEC,

I would love to see an alternative offering to Silver/Gold Partner Card please.

Qantas used to only offer a Gold Partner Card, but they added options of 50,000 points or valet parking a couple of years ago.

My husband then missed out on QF Gold as I chose the points.

He should earn his own status - I book him enough flights on my Avios as it is, so he does enough "free-loading" on my account!

Well the truth is he usually travels with me, so Silver/Gold is a bit wasted on him, especially on Avios bookings because he gets the lounge access through me when he travels on the same flight regardless of the cabin anyway. And of course with Avios bookings he doesn't get extra Avios like he would as Silver/Gold on revenue bookings.

Besides, it's likely he will make Silver in his own right next membership year. He would have got Silver this membership year but for the fact that I've been booking his flights on my Avios but I will be meaner now, because I am planning to use the Avios for Joker to Australia for both of us.

So, how about introducing an alternative to the Partner Card, please?

How do others feel about this? Anyone else in a similar position?

Semi similar, although not quite, I would like to see an alternative to the 241 on the Amex cards.

Your point makes logical sense, what can be a reward for one person can be of very limited use/benefit to another.
Various ways you could structure it, but won't decend this into specifics, I think it is a sensible proposal.
Although, BA will factor in a hope that the partner card recipient does defect a bit to BA, in some cases, so it is a bit of a marketing push as well.

The situation that I can think of where the Partner Card is least useful is everyone to whom the person wishes to gift it to already is Silver/Gold. BA does not benefit, and the recipient does not either, and possibly effectively reduces incentives to the person because it's not useful to him.

Avios would be a good alternative because BA will get them back anyway, eventually.

Indeed, and they remain their property throughout!

Various things you could come up with, ways of working it/valuing it. I agree it would be sensible for BA to offer such.

Extra Avios would be welcome.

AA offers something similar called "Elite Rewards":

I find the Gold Partner Card useful but it would be nice at 4500 TPs to have a choice between the Gold Partner Card, a Gold Upgrade for Two or an additional Joker.

An additional GUF2 would be good for BA, better than Avios in fact, because it can only be used on BA too. I'd like that option, in fact.

Or better still, a Joker that can be used for upgrade. I find it frustrating that it can't be used for upgrades at the moment,

Though you can use a Joker and a GUF2 simultaneously to achieve the same result.

I'm amazed anyone gets the time to use up their GUF2s and Jokers, I certainly don't.

But you can't do that on a revenue booking? I don't always pay for my own flights (or I have to claim it back, so I don't want to book them with Avios) so it would be good to be able to have the Joker availability in F to upgrade into.

I think Jokers may be harder for me to use than GUF2. GUF2 is easy. I'd use them as GUF1 to upgrade to F from CW. CW-F upgrades are my regular way of travelling, so I get lots of opportunities to use them (and the award availability on my main routes are often good).

You can use GUF2 with a revenue booking, but you need to use an appointed travel agent. In that situation you probably would not need to use a Joker unless it is last minute booking, but your travel agent can negotiate that (so if it is D0 but J9 for example).

Ah, yes, sorry, I know about the travel agent and GUF2 but I'm hoping for an upgrade Joker so that I can just have BA do it without needing to involve a travel agent. I'm chronically lazy

In any case something that's useful as an alternative to a Partner Card.

I'm even more chronically lazy, I can assure you, that's why I often use a travel agent.....

I can't even be bothered telling my husband what I want, I just cannot even bring myself to telling a travel agent what I'm trying to do, unless I absolutely need to

Although I think I will need to give travel agents a try.

What would be really nice is a combined Gold Upgrade for Two with Joker attached!

Perhaps we could have that at 6000 TPs instead of the regular Joker

Or even better, have a few nice little things after 6,000 TPs? Personal Special Service rep to call up?
