Domestic connection on BA delayed, missed onward connection on other airline...

whats the deal here?

Flight was delayed as there were not enough baggage containers at NCL, so they had to offload those onboard then refill them before we could fly to London.

An absolute joke if you ask me.

As a result flight landed 50 minutes late into LHR and I just missed my connection by minutes on Jet Airways.

Parking on a remote stand at LHR further aided my cause as well.

As i was checked in online, (I was just with hand baggage) i was classed as a no show, and entitled to no refund on Jet Airways.

I was going overnight to work on a job returning 24hrs later, so taking a later flight was not an option.

As a result i've also missed the job, not been paid, and rather annoyed a good client.

Had to pay to stay overnight in LHR hotel, and fly back next day.

BA response:

If you pay us £60 we'll change your ticket so you can get back to NCL

Where you flying to? Is this today? Jet only fly to BOM & DEL do they not - and not for a couple of hours? (Sorry Jet may have another Indian route i'm unaware of).

Can I ask how much you saved by flying on 2 tickets instead of 1?

Was this on 1 ticket? If so, you should have been protected.

If on 2 tickets, well, thats the risk.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Were you on separate tickets or a single PNR?

This is on the 28th Dec

was flying NCL-LHR on BA and LHR-BOM-GOI on 9W
same coming back

used 9W as it was the best connection down to GOI.
Too much of a wait on BA in BOM

Coincidently 9W J class was the same price as BA WT

But were they separate BA and 9W bookings, or all on a single ticket. As said above, if the former, that's the risk you take unfortunately....

How many PNR's (tickets in the vernacular). On one ticket, surprised that BA didn't get you onward one way or the other. If two tickets, you weren't connecting, you were terminating at LHR and starting another itinerary. One carrier has no way of knowing about the other.

Only exception to this general rule is OW where BA would have protected you even if you were on a separate onward OW ticket.

Jet have an agreement with BA for UK domestic sectors. Could have been done on 1 ticket.

Very sorry, irrespective of the truth, I can imagine this would seriously peeve me off as well. Having had problems in NCL with fog though, I would never have risked it.

Travel Insurance?

Minimum connection time from T5 to T4 is 105 mins, so if arrival of NCL flight was 50 mins late and OP "just" missed their Jet flight sounds like 2 PNRs?

Edit - actually the 1335 from NCL gets in 110 mins before the 9W117 departs, so that would meet MCT. There is no NCL flight that would get there in time for the morning BOM flight

BA were saying they were separate tickets, but the 9W flights were showing up on my BA app on my iphone...

Regardless, for someone who puts so much business their way i find it very shoddy to be honest.

I can understand weather etc, which i'm sure my insurance covers me for, but a lack of baggage containers is pretty damn schoolboy to be honest.

However, the woman on the counter just wasn't interested.

Classy.

Not knowing about it is not really the issue, they have not agreed to transport you to connect, they have sold you transport from A-B, not from A-B for connection to C. As a result they sold you something with an obligation to get you only to B.

Are you thinking of AA? I believe/understand that AA have such an official policy.

While BA, or the onward OW carrier might be more willing to help out with a problem in such a sitation, this is not official. Indeed, while BA would probably help with a BA to BA unofficial connection, they are under no obligtion to do so, they did not sell a ticket for such.

Was it booked as a single booking?

How late were you? You might get compensation under the EU regs for a late flight regardless.

However, if doing an unofficial connection, you need a more generous margin, or accept the consequences.

Did you purchase the journey NCL-GOI; or Ticket 1 NCL-LHR then Ticket 2 LHR-GOI? If the former, then you would have been accommodated. If the latter, then you got what you paid for.

Your profile shows you as Silver. I suspect there will be many on this board who won't consider that lots of business....
