Where did the pilferage happen?

I'm curious as to whether the incidence tends to be specific to some locations because I fly with checked baggage a lot (as in probably around 100 sectors a year, maybe 80, although I'm not sure) including many sectors on BA and have flown at a similar frequency for the last 7 years and have never had pilferage from my checked baggage or a loss of baggage.

I had quite a few delays, mostly when there was a major chaos going on, however, and a few damaged bags but never on BA - all of the damage happened in Australia.

However I have never lost anything from my bag yet, so it makes me wonder if some routes are more prone to pilferage or bag loss than others.

Never ever had anything pilfered even when luggage has been delayed for days or weeks....on several airlines and in some well known dodgy airports. Maybe they can tell by the brand of suitcases we use that they wouldn't get anything valuable anyway.

Do you lock your bags?

Never had anything pilfered, never had any bags lost or delayed... and I don't even bother putting locks on my bags any more.

Why no locks ? Google "suitcase ball point pen" ..... plus most luggage locks are easily unlocked without needing to be a fully trained locksmith.

MLA by any chance? It is a common occurrence there I am afraid, but agreed, totally unacceptable. Anywhere!

Indeed ... the presence of locks may signal that there is something valuable in the bag!

I have experienced having baggage temporarily lost in the system, but when that's happened, the airlines always have been good at sorting it out. And that even includes Delta

Never had anything stolen (so far, touching wood) but I have to say I don't put anything of any value in checked baggage anyway. I don't lock the suitcases either, that seems entirely pointless to me. If someone wants to get into it, a lock isn't going to stop them.

That is how HMRC work these days. Ever wondered why one bag comes out........2 minute delay.....then another bag?

I never put anything valuable in my hold luggage.
Camera, video camera, laptop, ipad, psp, etc etc all go in cabin bags, always.

I've had a few items mssing from luggage, mostly when traveling to South America. Once a TSA notice was in there. I wondered if that person forgot to put all my things back in.

Another time some clothes and shoes were missing but no TSA notice. I wear a very small size, not many can fit. They weren't designer or anything special. So I was a little surprised they were missing.

Also had a very nice, very expensive Swiss army knife stolen from my checked luggage twice. Luggage was locked and the lock brokenonce. The other time, the lock was just missing. No TSA notice either time.

None of these instances were with BA.

Never had anything nicked; just a couple of delays.
Even when I accidentally checked-in my Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones into my unlocked bag prior to my domestic Russian flight much to my surprise! The pleasure of seeing them still there when I arrived made up for the 3.5 hours of prop noise!

I once had some new clothes and other items missing from my bag when I flew ORD-LHR. Bag was not loaded on the plane, so I noticed the missing items only when the bag was delivered to my home.

BA reimbursed me in full for the missing items.
