Ireland & UK lounge T1 Revamp
Here i am sitting in the Domestic lounge at T1 waiting for my flight up to LBA,as mentioned previously, its the old BMI lounge,a dark and not inviting space, some soup and rolls for food, poor quality compared to the Galleries lounges here at T3 & T5.
Good news is,the guy at reception has said that BA will soon revamp it into a Galleries style lounge, they are building a kitchen etc,and i guess brightening the place up.

Showers, might be wishful thinking, and as to it being a bit odd, just repeating what i was told when i came in,maybe its just a little kitchen to make some better food offerings and a light weight makeover, time will tell, but i know this much, its depressing as it stands now.

Either way it's good news
The offering needs to be brought in line across all LHR lounges so as not to spoil the brand.

This is good news, but I suppose it means that they will continue to divide lounge traffic between the two lounges, along the current lines of UK/CTA and international.
I guess the showers maybe a bit of stretch if it is to be more cosmetic and catering. But still a good result.

I'm very surprised by this to be honest. When T2 opens in 2014, BA flights will progressively move to T3/T5, so it's a pretty short-term investment in the lounge space in T1.
I guess we'll just see updated furniture rather than any major hard changes - furniture can be moved easily, whereas bars etc. would be less easy to move.

I make that BA now has 10 lounges at LHR , is that a record for an airline in a single airport?
Has anyone used the servisair lounge in T1? As I don't have status at the moment its one that I can pay to get into and Id rather pay to get into a quiet spot rather than sit at the bar.

As I understand it the reason is due to the UK gates being past the secondary security check in T1. But I don't understand why it has to be like this.

The main reason for the separation is that domestic baggage reclaim is completely separate from international baggage reclaim.

I'm confused as lounge access is outbound and baggage is inbound

If any gate was used for domestic departures, a lot of moving aircraft around by tug would be necessary and all of the existing domestic/Irish gates would become arrival-only gates, which would cause many capacity problems.
