Bit of a nuisance that.
IST Terraces is one of them that doesn't have washrooms within the lounge. Public washrooms are literally next door however, so it's not too much of a nuisance. They don't seem to get much use by the public, as they are in the basement area with another lounge.

Agree. But I was told that BA will move to the bigger ex-bmi lounge by the middle of this year, now closed and which has and will have toilets. The EDI lounge staff thought that the existing lounge would then close.
The old BMI lounge is not beside the usual BA gates, so I wonder if we can also expect a "gate shuffle" to happen. Will Virgin take the current BA lounge I wonder?

Just as well they don't let "the public" into the lounges then!

It would make sense. Virgin may not be big enough to justify a lounge of their own but their upcoming partnership with Delta could make a SkyTeam lounge a sensible possibility (not sure on the exact numbers but the 6 Virgin flights a day plus KLM, CityJet and Air France must add up to at least enough PAX to justify a lounge). The only problem then is that the lounge would be in the wrong place for the KLM and Air France departures. Still less of a walk than GF to the domestic gates at Heathrow though!
The bmi lounge was huge (and in the dying days of bmi almost comically empty). There's a bit of me that would be surprised if BA kept both sides (the lounge was subdivided into a 'business' area and a 'Diamond Club' area although the difference was negligible by the end, indeed one half would generally be roped off and there would still be acres of space. Given how long the refurbishment of the old bmi lounge in Glasgow has taken I wouldn't be holding my breath though! Wasn't it meant to open in September? Had bmi hidden old cheese toasties in the ceiling or something?

And let's not forget that BA Golds now finally have Fast Track access at EDI. It was quite an indignity having to queue up whilst Sleazy Speedies got priority processing.

Can't speak for the LHR flights, but whenever I flew to LCY from EDI, the gate was always opposite the old BMI lounge
