747 New First Lavatory Shade Bolted Closed
Flew new first on a 747 LHR-JNB and noticed that the lavatory shade was bolted shut. My last few BA F flights have been in old F, and I can't say for sure if the previous new first flights were that way or not.
My partner and I love gazing at the plains of Africa while peeing. Why did BA bolt the shade shut? Peeping pigeons?
(I'm also surprised that this doesn't seem to have been previously discussed here, so far as my search skills can find.)

Reason: Corrected error: only one loo with a window

Interesting! Did not have an issue gazing at the scenery last month on the flight back from HKG!
IIRC, only one of the two WCs, the one closest to door 1 left, has the shade and window, however?

Correct, only the forward of the two First washrooms has a window.
Interesting that it was bolted shut. I can't see a logical reason why.

I'll admit to being very exhausted, but I thought both did. Now that you mention it, maybe it's only the forward one though. But I tried several times to open it and it seems pretty firmly bolted closed.

Were those in new F? I'm certain my last xx flights in old F also had fully opening shades.

It was new F, but old F (for me) opened too. In other words; I've always been able to open window blinds in the F loo on the 747.

I could get the tail number off the dashboard thingy and next time anyone here flies that plane, he or she could maybe check it out?

Same here. Not noticed any blinds being bolted down in the F lavs in either OF or NF.

Perhaps there should be a contest for the most humorous post each year? This must carry forward!
