Corked montrachet in F

I had the first glass of a corked montrachet the other day.. I handled it with class and simply said it was corked but will wait till the 2nd bottle is open without drinking the first one...low and behold the 2nd bottle was a beauty but i did smile at the other passengers who just quaffed the first down.. I thought there was more class in F .

Did they not de-cork it before pouring the first glass?

No.

Just to annoy you, they let people like me in F. Good old Tesco! Hmm, F to San Francisco in February - I wonder what I can do to disgruntle the snobs....

Not talking about the OP, but I am reminded of the many times friends who work in restaurants have commented on the false corking complaints designed to impress dates and girlfriends.

If you crow about having class, do you still have it?

If it was well and truly corked (i.e. smell of wet socks left out in the rain for 3 days) then I can't imagine how anyone could pour the wine let alone drink it.

I'm trained in wine and love great wine, but I have no snobbery about the use of screw tops. I very much doubt however that the montrachet came out of a screwtop. But then, are you being facetious?

Well, it was either that or saying "oh no, not another first world problem".

But yes, I was trying to inject some humour into the thread.

Genuine question since I want to know more about wine than I do...

Can you have 'corked' wine from a screw top? I thought that corked meant it had reacted with the cork?

Pretty good description here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cork_taint It is due to substances present in some cork.

This is one of the reasons vintners are moving more and more toward other closure devices.
