BA/QF Sydney lounges

Am sure this has been asked before, what will happen with at end of March QF marry up with EK, and i take it QF paxs will be using the EK lounges in SYD. Where will the BA pax both F & J go to a lounge in SYD, will they still be able to use to QF/BA lounge

QF are not leaving the OneWorld Alliance so lounge access should not change.

I think what's more interesting is what will happen in SIN - QF will no longer offer a First cabin to SIN, and there is a strong likelihood the First lounge will close permanently. BA will still serve SIN with a First cabin, so whether they will look to open their own F lounge...

Also interesting is what will happen in DXB - will QF pax use the small Galleries Club lounge? And will there be an F lounge option - surely there must be for the QF flagship A380 route?

I don't see any reason why QF passengers will be using the EK lounges in SYD, assuming QF don't close their own lounges. I can't see it somehow that they will close them to be honest.

Not all QF international flights will be operated with EK, for a start...

totally off course, if we came back QF to LHR i take it then we would not be able to use the BA arrivals lounge in T5.

I understood the EK/QF deal included access to EK lounges for QF (J and F passengers, not sure about FF flyers.

I can't see BA opening an F lounge to keep QF happy, with up to three flights a day with F, they would like an F lounge. But there is very limited space available in the terminal and they have apparently been told no. NB LH have to use the dire Marhaba lounge for some of their passengers. I know the BA lounge is not well liked, but I don't think it's that bad.

I believe there will be a mutual recognition for EK and QF FF flyers.

No, but QF do use the AA Arrivals lounge in T3 for F and J pax.

Better showers than T5, fewer people, better seating, decent food. In many ways it is preferable. No spa, but that isn't much of a loss.

Yes, but is that true for other FFs, eg do we know whether a BAEC Silver or Gold get EK lounge access when travelling Y?

If not, I can see that QF/EK would become a real turn-off for non QF/EK FF travellers. The lounge at the interim transfer point (ie DXB) is probably the most important. If OW FFs have to mill about the terminal at 2am without a shower, I can see them flying via KUL, SIN, HKG, LAX, DFW, BKK...

I can see no reason why BA would keep their lounge open longer to accommodate.

Why would they? EK aren't joining OW.

I definitely don't think BA Silver or Gold will have EK lounge access when travelling Y.

It's not as if EK were joining OW.

Knowing EK I doubt they would. But if QF are using EK to handle their QF flights one might expect them to help QF make arrangements for their wider OW FF traffic, as other airlines do, otherwise QF risk losing it.

Board a RJ flight in Y in BKK with a BAEC Silver or Gold card and you will get a TG lounge invite. MS in KUL will give you an MH lounge invite. I am sure there are other examples.

But moreover, knowing that the route does not afford FF benefits to wider OW 'elites' would likely deter those passengers from using the route, ie BAEC in Y would do well to book away from the QF, DXB routing.
