BA booking but first flight is operated by AA
Help! This may sound like a stupid question but I just went to check-in on BA and print a boarding pass for our flight from YYZ to JFK where we switch terminals to then fly to LHR.
However, when I clicked on check-in, it says that I have to check-in on AA.com for our first flight and use my AA booking reference. I don't have an AA booking reference as all my booking references are with BA. So how do I check-in or can I? We fly tomorrow!
I would appreciate some assistance. Thanks everyone.
If checkmytrip.com doesn't show the AA booking reference, you can find it yourself by logging into aa.com (create an account if necessary), then put in your flight details and name and you'll be able to retrieve the AA reference and check-in.

Thanks for your responses. I tried checkmytrip but it did not come up with the AA reference number - just the BA confirmation number. I've logged into AA and put in the BA numbers (tried both) and it keeps coming up with no reservation. Looks like I will have to call AAA once we fly into Toronto. Now I feel very stupid. I have never had a problem like this before. I hope this does not foretell what the rest of the vacation will be like!!!

Just look up the flight on aa.com using the flight number and dates. You don't need the booking reference to do the lookup providing you're logged in.

Checkmytrip should work, you may find it easier to ask it for a detailed PDF print so the info on the AA ref is easier to find.
I just tested it with a similar booking like yours.
If you're still not having any luck, call AA reservations and give them your details and they will be able to retrieve the AA record locator you can use to select a seat and check in on aa.com.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have such a bad cold to boot that I just couldn't handle sitting on the phone for hours trying to obtain the information. We ended up at the gate this morning and checked-in that way. It took awhile but we were able to check our luggage all the way through to Edinburgh. Will keep all your thoughts in mind for next time! In the meantime, hope all of you had a Happy Christmas and will have a New Year filled with new adventures.
