Strong 787 route rumour: YYZ (BA93/2) and YYC (BA103/2)

There's a strong rumour on airliners.net that BA103 will receive the 787 from 16th July, as westbound flight timings change from 17 July from 9.25hrs to 8.45hrs.

A bit more digging on ba.com shows that BA93/2 is also a likely candidate as the flight time drops from 8.05hrs to 7.35hrs from 17th June.

BA have started the crewing process for the 787, and one of the things mentioned in the information is that, the new aircraft will start off replacing aircraft on a couple of the 767 routes at the moment, so would make sense...

Also BA187 (EWR) goes from 8.10hrs to 7.25 from early June so also might be on the list. All would make sense as they are there and backs within 24hours...

And also all routes operated by 767.

All very logical choices for routes, however extremely unexciting. I'll have to test it out at EWR, though I'll make sure I'm in CW.

Don't mean to spoil the hopes of the people who look forward to the prospect of getting the 787 on these routes, but wouldn't the flight time change in exactly the same way if, say, BA was to introduce a 772 instead of the 763 on those routes?

Possibly, but they'd have no reason to hold back that the 777 was to operate the routes. Also the Q2/Q3 timing fits with the 787 deliveries..

This is an excellent opportunity for BA to get PR as well as a load of cash. Marketing could easily create an event "Special first BA 787 flight".

LHR-EWR, champagne for everyone
Dinner in New York
Speech by a Boeing and BA representative
All passengers get a diploma signed by Boeing/BA

I just don't get it why airlines don't use opprtunities like this? Surely, it can't be difficult to fill a 787 with airplane geeks?

BA will keep receiving some 77W and some 787s so you could get X, currently operated by 772 gets one of the new 77W or 787 as they are received, which freeds one 772 to be ascribed to Y...

PS: I'm also not sure that by that token they would have any reason to hold back that a 787 would operate the route either. As others have pointed out, hardly something to be ashamed of or likely to penalise sales!

Just losing the 767 is good enough for me.

I can sympathise with this (although sadly, the 777s are nothing to write home about...)

Maybe they want to wait until the launch date is closer so that if any problems with EIS crop up they don't look bad.

What aircraft certification with the 787 crew drop, the 767?

Correct... The CAA are prepared to allow an extra license for a period, providing that all types are Boeing, no Airbus. I believe BA have also tried to align, as much as possible, the SEP procedures and equipment for the 787 with the 777, to make it easier to hold the 4 licences.

I do find it quite alarming that carriers in other countries have no restrictions on the number of types allowed. A friend works for Delta, and they fly on everything in the whole fleet, and are just about to have the 727 (from AirTran I believe) added to the fleet, so will end up flying on around 12 different types of aircraft... Unbelievable...
