T5 Bus Gate: Why did they take my coffee away?

I was enjoying it and apparently I look like the kind of person who may spill it on someone else.

Hot coffee. Moving bus. People standing. Sudden braking. What could go wrong?

Or even if everything is alright on the bus ride, it's still possible that one (I'm not accusing you personally) might throw it away in an inappropriate place (read: tarmac) making it FOD.

Here's a novel idea: Put rows of seats on the bus and some overhead racks for luggage, so people can be transported in a civilized manner. There is no need to pack these things like a tube car. There is nothing more aggravating than paying for F or J and getting a Picadilly Line experience!

I've had a drink taken away from me at T5C because "if it spills it forms a slipping hazard. 'Elf-n-safety' you know?!"

As is usually the case when someone quotes heath and safety I presume it was an agent making up the rules as he goes along but I'd be curious to hear from the staff posters on this one.

For now I just ask for a bag (multiple bags) from Starbucks when boarding at T5C and place the cup(s) in there.

Man detained at gate A10 concealing a dangerous object, serious threat to passengers

I thought I remembered a similar thread about coffee and bussing gates - quite an amusing post by Smirnoff

I get the bus to Heathrow and coffee is fine but I get the point about cramming them full like underground trains

Classic BAA focussing on some minimal health and safety risk rather than running Heathrow like a proper airport.

Seems petty but I can fully understand why it's not allowed....especially as people are quite keen on suing nowadays.
