BA7 LHR-HND departure delay today

Does anyone know why this flight was delayed by just over 5 hours today (14/12)?

Sounds like a lot of €600 payouts are due!

Would compensation apply to the inbound HND-LHR tomorrow too? That has a 5 hour delay showing due to BA7 arriving late.
I have a friend on this flight and some EU compensation would definitely sweeten the deal of waking up at 3am and then having a 5 hour delay attached to your flight!

Edit: Googled myself and it does indeed look like he is eligible to claim.

Just a point of reference here. The last time I flew out of Haneda my flight was delayed by about three hours. At the time I opened a thread here on whether or not I should check in on time or not. After starting that thread I got both an email and text from BA confirming the delay, and, more importantly, informing me that check-in would stay open until 8am so it's very likely that your friend will not have to wake at 3am and then hang around at HND for an extra 5 hours.

You're also entitled to compensation unless "about three hours" resolves to under three hours.

My BLR flight was cancelled, and they put me on the next flight 24 hours later. I was treated well by BA.

Am I due compensation out of interest?

Yes unless the cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided given all reasonable precautions.

Fog closed the BLR airport, the plane landed somewhere else.

I don't think BA can be responsible for fog closing an airport.

True, I was just interested. I was treated very well and have no complaints except being 24 hours late.

With the long haul slot issues at HND, wouldn't this sort of delay cause a cancellation?

I think the slot issues relate to schedules rather than the actual take-off time. The delayed flight did operate.
