787 to Vancouver, Newark, Montreal and Dar es Salaam [rumours]

I see that these have been announced as the opening routes for the 787 - currently served by a 747, 2 777s, 767 and a 4 times a week 767.

An unusal mix, to Vancouver this will surely not replace the 747 - could it be a non daily service, maybe combined with Dar? On Newark will the 787 reduce capacity while on Montreal increase it, though not to the capacity of the 777 that has previously operated this route?

I know that i no longer contribute here as much as i did, but where has this been announced ? I didnt think it was being announced until 2013 ?

But yes i agree, rather odd, unless the 787 is just replacing the 763 like for like on existing routes ?

Interesting. Thought the 787 might launch with a new route, but there you go.

I know the long haul fleet is pretty squeezed at the moment, with 2 (?) 747s being repaired for unexpected damage. Might explain the fleet juggling whilst they wait for more aircraft to give a bit of slack?

Not sure if this is 'official' news or guess work?

BA specifically stated on Monday:

"British Airways will announce the routes the new aircraft will operate in Spring 2013."

(spoilt passenger mode) Am having separation anxiety from the UD already .

YVR to LHR is a busy route, it's rare that I've seen empty seats, at least in W and J. I would like it if the summer service of two flights a day, five out of seven days a week, were to be increased to year around rather than from May through September. The earlier departure of BA86 is .

EWR, YUL, DAR seem like obvious choices to replace the 787. I doubt it will launch first on a new route, BA will want to be safe and get familiar with Ops before starting new adventures

Sounds interesting!

If true I doubt that BA would lose the 747 on YVR since they have strong market power on that route.

Most likely 787 would be a new frequency.

YUL is an obvious route to me having been a regular user until recently. The 767 seems often to be bit too small and the 777 often a bit to big (used only in high season). The 787 is probably be the perfect fit. Lets see!

Would I sound selfish if I say that I wouldn't want BA to take away the 747 on the LHR-YVR Route? This is our LAST remaining 747 passenger flight in and out of YVR!

That aside though, I hear the BA flight is always full since many passengers take it to connect through LHR. Wouldn't make much economic sense to replace it with a smaller aircraft if they can properly fill a 747.
