JER - BA schedule changes
Just had an email from BA Customer Services, "regretting to inform" me of some schedule changes for JER-LGW next May. Esentially, the mid-day flights have been pushed to the ends of the day: still 5-a-day, but very different timings. You fly early or late, and there's nothing in the middle.
Personally, it's a huge PITA and is going to cost us extra for cat boarding, and will involve a huge amount of sitting around or a very questionable MCT for LHR-LGW after a TATL.
However, any TP-Runners might like to note what's on offer in May/Jun 2013. I suspect you will have to exploit dummy bookings yourselves to see 'when', as BA doesn't actually publish a Timetable (as in a Table of Times). So I will …
ETDs as follows: JER>LGW
0700 2769
0855 2771
1035 2773 [was 1335]
…
1700 2775 … UPDATE: now showing as 1335 again, the original 2773 schedule.
2010 2777
LGW>JER
0720 2770
0900 2772 [was 1200]
…
1530 2774 … UPDATE: now showing as 1205 again, the original 2772 schedule.
1830 2776
1920 2778
It's hard enough getting on and off The Rock. This becomes a potential tipping point for us, when we're always connecting at LHR to the USA. BA has effectively added an extra day to the round trip.

This and the loss of LGW-MAN flights has led me to conclude that BA does not want me to have my long weekends in Jersey anymore.
Time to send in the bears to Waterside.

Must be my fault - I go and use the 11:50 LGW-JER and 13:30 JER-LGW twice in the same week and they take them away.
Interestingly, on my return I was sent a questionaire about flight timings on this very route. I did NOT indicate alterations either of the middle-of-day flights was required.
Also, the 11:50/13:30 combination made for a very convenient TP run. Breakfast at Gatters beforehand; Starter on the way out and Main on the return .. assuming CE of course which no doubt you would be for a TP run.

Oh, what fun. Britain is cut off from Jersey during the middle of the day.
Plan F**** could be JER-LCY and then Onward to LHR. That will be cheap/easy. Damn you, BA. I am really p****d by this change. And, yes, I will be calling BAEC to see what they reckon about their MCT to LGW. Arrive at LHR 0650, the Border Lottery followed by the M25, and they suggest we will get the 0900 from LGW? Having a laugh, eh?

Reason: wrong M
I too am completely baffled by this, not least because the 2773 was always busy, especially with connecting pax. On the last couple of occasions it has been completely full in both cabins. If it aint broke...
Similarly the re-timing of the 2777 late evening flight into LGW is unhelpful if you are bound for anywhere beyond Central London, particularly if it is late as usual.
Then again, I find BA's whole strategy for JER incomprehensible. The route is presumably a cash cow given the short sector and the healthy loads in both cabins, and yet it remains at LGW with the creaking 737s (and now curiously timed flights). Blue Islands and BE are both now offering decent competition - the LCY flight is usually full, and BE's punctuality knocks BA into a cocked hat. When are BA going to wake up and refine their offering (preferably to LHR or LCY as well)...??
I'm on the 8:20am flight to JER this weekend and coming back on the 6pm flight as I like to spend some time there rather than in and out.
Normally favour the 11:20am one as it's easy to get to LGW without an overnight stay.

Yeah, at our age we really fancy hanging around until 2230 to get on the overnight!! I know what you mean, but no thanks!
It's a total scramble of our personal plans, and those of the other 2 family members joining us. I'll wait until the morning to clear our heads and talk to BAEC, but it's a complete destruction of a route we've been using contentedly twice a year for the last 5 years. Yes, other timings exist - if you're young, or want to spend 6 hours in a Lounge waiting for the next flight.
I now have to seriously consider the implications of telling BA to stuff it, fly someone else, lose TPs and status and consider excess baggage costs. We do come home 'heavy'. This could send us to VS, embarrassing and expensive though that would be. Or … we could move back to UK?
