A techie question for you techies out there.

I have a new computer. Whenever I go to BA's site, somehow it forgets my BA#, so I have to keep putting it in (and yes I do every time click on the remember me thingy and it still doesn't work). Another thing, I am in France, and it always starts with the French screen and in French even though I keep changing it to France/English, it always reverts back to France/french...

What am I doing wrong, help. It is driving me nuts, since I don't remember my BA # and have to always look for it. No, I am old and keep forgetting my #. My brain's capacity is diminishing as the days go..

Thanks.

It sounds like cookies are being blocked (either in your browser settings or possibly some firewall software).

It might be worth checking your browser privacy/security settings to see if there's an option checked to block them.

You probably need to clear the cookies for the BA site on your computer?

See here for instructions:

It does sound to be a cookie problem.

Regarding remembering/forgetting your BA #:
You can also login using a username that you specify. Go to Exec Club / Manage My account / Update my details then 'Update login details'.

This is a brand new apple, so do I have to clear the cookies, still?

I never had any problems with Safari before, this is the first time.

Thank you all for your help, BA people are just great. s

You don't have to do all of them if you are not having problems with them all, just the ones giving you problems. See my post above.

Now we know it is a Mac, go to the example for Safari 5 Quick Method, and follow it just for the BA site. Then shut down the browser, start again on the BA site with a log in and Voila - you should be fixed. If not come back and we can look at something else.

Thanks, I did what you suggested, and now can log in using my email address. But another question if I may add, whenever I tic (?, we gringos don't use this expression) the remember me box and log out then try again a few minutes later, it doesn't remember me? What am I doing wrong?

And thanks a mil for the ones who recommended clearing the cookies, since I am a techy idiot and am scared that I might clear something out that I might need or is important to the functioning of the computer, decided to keep it as is, and maybe take the computer with me to the NCL Do and some of the great people there might help me.

As I always say, BA people are always s. Thanks.

Ok following, but in a box it says "Remove all web site data" does that mean it will remove all the data from ALL my web sites? Do I have to go again register with all the sites that I am registered with already? Ie NYtimes etc etc?

No. It means it will remove whatever data your computer stores about the websites. It might means that the first time you revisit NYT, for example, you will need to log in again, as a one-off.

Possible your computer is not storing cookies at all. You can look at which are being stored in the privacy tab.

On the above mentioned privacy tab you will also see the location services options - it is this that allows BA to keep detecting you are in France. You can change it and the change will stick, but that requires cookies to be fully enabled.

I never had any problems with Safari before, this is the first time.
On newer macs, under your Internet>Privacy settings, the default (factory fresh) option is to block 3rd party cookies. If in your attempts to fix the issue, you selected to block all cookies, that could explain your issue.

Also, check to see if secure/private browsing is enabled. If it is, then all cookies are deleted each time you close Safari. So, with that setting, you could go back and forth to the BA site multiple times without issues, but as soon as you closed and reopened safari, all of your cookies, including the BA logon, will have been erased. Unselecting the secure/private browsing option will eliminate this problem.

Disabling automatic location services will prevent the machine from automatically detecting your location in France and preserve your prior settings.
