Something BA Should Really, Really Read....

Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?

It is only one person's opinion, I am sure others are perfectly happy with BA first.

It sums up that person's view on that particular flight. Granted, there should be a standard of excellence for the F product, all the time, (I have been in F and experienced less than what I would describe as that standard), but on the whole, I would say that I have seen levels of service far higher than this writer's.

There are some good points raised in the article, but IMHO, I disagree with most of the negatives. (I think that CCR is great! If it were so awful, why is the 'longe meet-up' thread so full of requests to be allowed in?

I was perfectly happy with BA first.

Despite the article's statements the seats to me are clearly much more roomy than Club (and therefore represent a valuable product to upsell to) and I have no desire to eat caviar.

Admittedly I have not flown other F cabins, but I have flown J on carriers which are supposedly 'better' than BA and although there were still clear differences I did prefer BA CW overall.

Indeed.
Anyone who puts so much emphasis on not being served caviar shouldn't be taken too seriously in my opinion.

The points are somewhat valid but it does seems rather over critical. I have flown EK, CX, TG and SQ F class many times but I still think BA has a great F product.

The Concorde Room may not be TG F lounge but is still one of the best out there. Look at SQ lounges - dull libraries with alcohol.

As for the seat - I am 6ft3 and find it more than enough space. My feet cannot touch the end of the seat so that must be good!

My favourite still is CX though but I would chose BA over SQ (their food is really poor and unless on the Suites the seat is terrible) and definitely over TG. Each to their own I guess though.

Eating raw fish ovulation a has always seemed odd to me I must admit. But there are some pretty valid points in there IMHO:
"The Concorde Room is a nice space, but it isn't overly impressive" and "service is stuffy and too slow"
"Elemis Travel Spa (snip) unfortunately the service was perfunctory rather than relaxing"
"how on Earth has BA managed to make a 747 feel cramped"
"more like a good business class cabin" (ed. so often compared to VSs J product)
"but did not use high enough quality ingredients for first class" (ed.very much agree with this IME - on my recent F ex PEK the quality of food would have disappointed in Y)

"In all, what made the flight was the service" (ed. very true. IMHO the service in first is top notch and BAs biggest strength by some way)

I'm not sure it can pretty much sum up something that appears to be discussed on this forum approximately 1 thread in 5

I personally have no problem with BA/CCR. Most of the time it has met my expectations, at times the CC make it a superb experience. It is a plane after all and not my house or hotel.

Caviar would be a waste on me as well as truffles, but of course not truffle chocolates.

What is amusing, after rereading the article and not just skimming it, is they'd take it again if they get those vouchers. If it was so disappointing, why waste your vouchers, use them on your preferred airlines.

And the crew, poor crew, they really don't know what to do. If they around then we complain they are hovering if they leave us alone then where are they. There is no pleasing everyone. And for heaven's sake you could have pushed the button and asked for your water, if you were so lazy to move from row 4 to 5 then the galley, too long of a walk.

Give people a brake please.

I thought this review of F was spot on. In fact, I started to wonder if I'd written it myself!

Especially the bit about the cabana. Cabanas newby question

I thought it was quite balanced.

  • F check in: Not worth the hike
  • Check in to aircraft ground experience: Might as well be in economy, except for hit and miss fastrack, and hit and miss priority boarding.
  • CCR: Service very inconsistent. Needs more bathrooms!
  • Cabana: 'Nuff said.
  • Seat: Slightly better than CW
  • Service: When it's good, it's very, very good, but when it's bad.....
  • Drink: Good
  • Food: Good, edible, but hardly fine dining. Presention is often sadly lacking.

Of course it's much better than travelling in economy and sitting in Wetherspoon's, but I would like to see BA aim higher than "Not as bad as Wetherspoon's"!

No, not really. I won't repeat the comments already posted above, many of which I agree with.

So if BA F really is that crap and the writer has the option of SQ and CX, don't fly BA again - 241 or not!

(Extra redemption availability for the rest of us!)

I think the article is written by someone with too high expectations. Granted, when flying First you, however expecting caviar and an escort to the plane seems a bit much really. Also, it's hardly a long way from First check in to security, although a First only entrance from landslide to CCR would be nice.

Of course, I'm writing this from the perspective of someone who hasn't flown F for about 8 years! However I'm looking forward to sampling the F seats which somehow are smaller than the J seat that I (being 5ft10 and rather large) Nd most comfortable in

Other carriers provide this though, so why don't Ba?

And F check in? Why not kerbside?

Probably because they feel the money can be better spent elsewhere I imagine.

Do any others provide it (escort from lounge to plane) at LHR?

My only other F experience is on LX, whilst I'd suggest they are slightly better, BA is in the same ball park.

The Swiss F lounge is not as good as the CCR, you don't have to take the mass transit to the International Pier, however the mini bus transfer is not much better and you have to join the same security queue as everyone else, there is certainly no 'escort'
