Tier Point run from LAS

I'll have about 24 hours from 17:00 18th Jan. I'll be in LAS and need to get back there for my return flight to LHR to 20:40 19th Jan.

I'm looking at maximising tier points for dollars so far I can see SFO via LAX return for $600 for 240 point in "First special"

any other deals? any suggestions appreciated.

Hi

SFO is an easy one and will do the job. Not sure if the timings work for you to get to and from somewhere that goes through MIA - something like MCO or SJU. The reason being the whopping 210 TPs for the LAS-MIA section. All my TP runs from LAS have included MIA for maximum points.

Another option is places such as Austin - you can get some cheap flights there and you would not have to tangle with notorious SFO weather! Normally via LAX o you will still get 240 total TPs.

I would reommend just taking the time to look at various destinations - they are changing value all the time.

The choices look pretty limited, not that many Instant Upgrade fares, so how about:

LAS - LAX on AA1713 dep 17.10 arr 18.20
LAX - MIA on AA1178 dep 21.50 arr 05.40
MIA - LAS on AA1821 dep 07.00 arr 09.35

all in First Special, that prices up at £643.90 ai on www.americanairlines.co.uk

60+210+210 = 480 TPs @ £1.34/TP

When you get back to LAS you can hopefully find somewhere to sleep that lot off before your next flight...

It's a pity you don't have another day to do this. LAS - SJU is £520 return and 620 TPs. You could probably get near 700 TPs for around £550.

Look at Orlando as well as or instead of Miami. I did LAX-ORD-LAX on a First Special earlier this week as the timing worked better than MIA. The only disadvantage is there is no Admirals Lounge to while away a few hours in ORD.

Yes I did the TP run to maintain my Silver. I asked at ORD and was told there was no lounge. I walked the shopping mall instead!

How strange - ORD certainly does have lounges

What routing is that? Via DFW or JFK I can't see to get more than 360TP

The normal route I do is:

LAS-LAX - 60
LAX-MIA - 210
MIA-SJU - 40

So 620 for the return journey. Sometimes you can add in an MCO stop for additional TPs but I have never managed to get that to work.

ORD has both a Admirals Club and a Flagship lounge. The Admirals Club is right smack in the middle of the shops. The Flagship lounge is at the far end of a pier.

One good use of the AA app is that it tells you where the various AA lounges are in the terminal maps for all airports that AA fly to.

Just realised I meant MCO - I'm brain dead having just got off the LAX-LHR in economy! Now why is Orlando MCO and not ORD?

Presumably you mean MCO for Orlando... ORD is Chicago OHare...

Definitely no lounges in MCO, having been there recently myself...
