Renewed Silver on 40th flight. How many in the "50 flight" club?

As per the title, I just renewed Silver on my 40th BA flight since the 8th Feb. Helped recently by a couple of £69 CE upgrades, otherwise it would have been around the 46 flights mark and cutting it fine before 8th Feb next year. So how many here have done it with the full 50 flights? I have to say, 40 was enough of a grind for 600 points - other than the two recent CE sectors, all of the rest were in ET. Phew!

Never needed 50 for Silver but did reach 36-ish flights a couple of years ago when doing almost all domestics with a small number of economy hops to AMS thrown in before I reached 600 TPs. Would be painful to do it with 50 flights and still fewer than 600 TPs! I wonder also whether anyone has ever actually reached Silver this way...

50 domestics I guess... Ouch.

Did silver in the old days on about 60 flights. Don't know the exact number but did 136 sectors over the year in which I earned and then renewed silver, from a standing start. After the last flight of the 12 month period, circumstances changed and my flying stopped such that I never used the silver card again!

Plenty of us on EDI and GLA are v grateful for the 50 flight qualifying, which is only two returns a month or so to London on discount. I usually have at least one TATL, and a couple of Euros, and you can always revert to full fare and higher TPs if you are in danger of missing silver. But many thanks to BA for standing by commuters...EDI has always been a big revenue earner

Like Mac I do about 130 sectors a year and will scrape Gold this year!

I'm sitting at 510 TP and 41 flights since my match from BD earlier in the year. So in theory I might renew on both simultaneously... (though I don't actually need to renew until 2014, so my hard-earned TP will be unceremoniously dumped in the bin, unused)

I think that anyone who gets close to or across the 50 sector mark to renew silver deserves an honourable mention in 'despatches'.

However, along time ago in a galaxy far far away (the mid 1990s) when BA used to give away a leather document folder for their gold members, I reached gold three years in a row without a single premium class sector and all on deeply discounted economy. It was in the days before they reduced the number of tier points for discounted flights (so that part didn't matter). All regular trips from GLA/ABZ to LHR and the occasional Y transatlantic.

I think I have one of those old leather document folders somewhere...

Yes anyone who reaches Silver only by flying in economy thoroughly deserves it.

Did last year - 50 flights in Y to Europe. This year however, a couple of returns in C to South Africa plus a few flights to Moscow andTLV helped me reach Gold last week. Was a slog in 2011/12 though!

50 domestic sectors a year would be perfectly manageable.

After all it is only one return every two weeks.

And if you had Silver at the start of the year the ground services perks would make it even more manageable.

If you did 50 CW sectors each year with a domestic tagged on to each that would be seen as comparatively easy travel.

I know it's not quite the same but my first year of OWE (QF) was obtained through domestic flying on discount economy.

I think it took close to 100 sectors.

What a contrast. Most likely I'll be renewing my Gold in the next 2 weeks this year, i.e. within 6 weeks of the start of my membership year.

My flight log indicates I have done 197 sectors so far this year.
Oh dear.

Not that I qualify on segments on any of my programs. My flights are generally quite a bit longer than that.

I claim membership of that exclusive club. 52 sectors last year (26 returns) - almost all in M / O fare buckets - mostly work with a couple of leisure trips for good measure. Oh, and a LH redemption.

Not sure I'm going to manage it this year.

Next month will receive my Silver card after 44 flights this year. Travel most weeks from Edinburgh to London and am in CE a couple of times.
