Terminal 1 "Arrivals Lounge"

Just checked in o my flights from AMM to LHR (and onward to MRS). Given at check in a letter from the station manager informing me that "BA has ceased to offer arrivals lounge facilities at T1 but you are welcome to use T5".

Firstly I was not aware that T1 even had any arrivals lounge facilities? Do they mean the showers in the old BMI departure lounge? Surely not......

Secondly, if you are arriving and then departing from T1 are you really going to have to leave T1 get on the HEX head to T5, shower etc and then get back on the HEX to leave from T1 again? Is this the future solution or are they also moving all Euro flights (like MRS) to T5 in the future which makes this change make more sense.

Any insight appreciated.

Ta.

bmi used to offer arrival facilities on its medium/long-haul flights at T1. This is probably what he meant.

It will not be possible to move all flights to T5 so this is unlikely to happen. OTOH, there may be more room at T3 in the future, enabling BA flights to move from T1 to T3.

No, you are not expected to go via T5 for a T1-T1 connection. The answer that you were given means, in substance, that BA is not offering arrival facilities for the kind of itinerary you had but will not prevent you from using the T5 facilities if you really, really, really want to do it.

on a T1-T1 connection you will be able to use the BA (ex BMI lounges) in T1, I assume that these have shower facilities ? big assumption i know but i am a T1 virgin

Just curious, with a T1 longhaul arrival and no onward flight would you be able to use the T3 AA arrivals lounge? assume that would be simpler than the shelp to T5 ?

The T1 international lounge HAD (in the BMI days) great showers - I assume they are still there. Never noticed in the domestic lounge. Sorry

Don't know but whether T3 is easier than T5 is debatable: it is a longish walk from T1 to T3 so, all in all, HEX-ing it to T5 may not make such a big difference.

Another reason t1 is terrible.

There are showers in. The intl lounge if you're going onwards to LUX or somewhere. No showers in the uk lounge, and domestic customers are banned from the intl lounge. That said, I think Diblin is the only destination left from t1 domestic. Makes sense to move JFK to t3 and Dublin to t5.

LHR is BA's 'home' airport. As such the lack of facilities for ALL their passengers is nothing short of a 'Heath Robinson' joke.

I beg your pardon? JFK to T3? I think not!

It's not BA's fault. Its down to BAA the airport operator.

That said. Does anyone know which "Second" terminal BA is going to operate from in the mid term? The so called "Terminal East" which will be T1 & T2 combined or T3.

And i wonder if anyone has put any thought to extending the train thing, or putting a new line in to link whatever second terminal is used?

JFK to T3 - No Way

Well, not unless they created a Concorde Lounge there which would be rather retro.

Leeds is T1 as well isn't it? If so don't worry about not being able to have a shower, you'll fit in amongst the Yorkshire unwashed just fine

My guess would be the T1 operated flights would move to T3, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if some of them (like TLV and CAI) moved over before T1 closed.

- the lesser of two evils.

Ironic, given that I first started flying LHR-CAI almost 30 years ago - from T3. Having subsequently flown the same route from T4, T5, and, shortly, T1 all I need is T2 to complete the set!
