Upgrade [not]

Arrggghhh!!!

I'm trying to upgrade an upcoming sector online with Avios from WT+ to CW. Local BAEC office is closed. Trying to upgrade online says it is not possible online (call local office).

By the time my local office is open the award seat will probably be gone.

Can I do anything?

(before you ask, I have tried calling the US office [as they're open] to see if they could even just reserve the seat and I could then confirm and upgrade tomorrow AM with my local office. They would not even entertain the idea.)

Am I being unreasonable?

Call again (maybe the UK office?). I was able to have an upgraded seat reserved after I explained why I was calling not my home country BAEC office. BA really needs to step up and realize that we're living in the 21st century...

I'd suggest you take a screenshot of the fact that it's currently available and then try calling your local office at the first available opportunity once they're open. If the availability is gone by the time you get through then at least you have some evidence to suggest that it should have been possible to do have done it yourself.

If you have status you could try the US gold line? They are often far more amenable than the normal line.

Thanks - I'm Gold. Could you PM the US Gold Line number? I'll give them a go and report back.

Unfortunate to hear that the UK office is closed! I'm a Euro member and have had this situation a couple of times. On two out of two occasions that Bremen have been closed, the UK Gold line has been able to help me out on upgrading with Avios.

The problem is that a foreign BA Office can't charge the Avios to your BAEC Account. But they can block the upgrade seat for you. Then you can call your BA Office to fulfill the upgrade the next day.

I'm in a similar situation right now - would like to speak to the Exec Club - it's working hours where I am - but of course Gold line in the UK closed. It really is not good... I wonder if You First is open as it is an F booking... no of course it isn't..

New BA slogan:
BA the global airline, working on our time not yours!

Yes they can as it is done for GGL members. BA just chose not to allow it for all other members.

Of course it is! You First is available 24/7. Out of office hours First passengers are routed to the Priority Line in the US.

Hi, to let you all know the outcome.

I called the BAEC Gold Line in the US however they also said it was policy not to block the award seat so I could confirm the next day. I explained I could not do it online as the itinerary included sectors on other airlines and my local office was closed.

Anyway, this morning, fortunately there was one award seat left in Club. I called the local office and all was sorted.

I would have been quite upset though if there was no award availability left.

As a Gold member (but not GGL), I would have liked to have seen a little more flexibility.

It is ludicrous that a company dealing in travel around the world can't offer customer service to its best customers wherever they may be.
