Wow, New First

Lucky enough to get new first on BA205 to Miami, yesterday and everything about it was wonderful, apart from taking off an hour late.

We had the new Thales IFE, which was fantastic, wonderful food, drink and service, good conversations with fellow pax (re-positioning crew) and apart from a really long walk on arrival, which was needed to get the circulation going again, a fabulous experience.

We even had to wait for our luggage to arrive, due to no immigration lines!

Good to hear a happy customer. Was this a 777? Any comments on seating and the general cabin environment?

You do realise that has nothing to do with new F right?

Nice to hear some good feedback for a change, it seems like a lot of negative posted here regarding it which like yours was not my experience at all.

I must agree too. Recently returned from AUH in new first and what an experience! Everything was superb, especially the crew! Which crew operates the AUH/MCT route??

Definitely a 777 as it had Thales. Plus I think BA205 is scheduled as 777.

Indeed it was a 777. It looked really new and very clean. At T-24 there were only three seats allocated, so I guess as well as the off duty crew, there were have been a few upgrades, as cabin was pretty full on take-off. Apparently relief crew normally fly in Club, but as F was empty they had a treat. They invited my wife and I for a drink at their hotel, but we were staying near the airport, so declined.

There was a tremendous choice of entertainment, so much so that I didn't watch a film at all.

One interesting point is it took 15 mins to answer my call button, but this is because it didn't 'bong' so there was only a visual sign and they were all busy.

Not to rain on your parade here - sounds like a good experience overall - but do you think this is OK in F? Especially with 3 paid pax? I would find that pretty unacceptable for WT and would be furious if it took that long in CW, let alone F... (after 60 seconds I would be on my way to get it myself anyway)

I can forgive them if there is a bingbonging defect and only a visual alert is on.

Saying that, the last time I pressed the call bell was when the seat belt sign was on and I found someone's spectacles under my seat and wanted to see if they could find the owner pronto about a year ago, so I have no idea about pressing the call bell to be honest.

Some of the time though I only need to think about something like a cup of tea and somehow a crew member miraculously appear. Some very experienced crew seem to be the master of covert observation - not in your face at all but they can read the subtlety of your demeanour to decide that you appear to want something. I had a set of crew like that on new year's eve last year on BA in F. It was just wonderful.

Not at all acceptable and I made my observations known, but the crew really were very helpful. I had to search out the choccies, though!

That would be the mark of a good F crew!
I generally don't use the call button at all - usually it's extenuating circumstances such as being at the window in Y with seatmates sleeping, etc.

The crew left them on top of the shelf in front of 1A last week.

Much appreciated especially given that I was in A1
