Is It Just Me.....
Or has BA suddenly become a lot cheaper than it used to be?
Just running a few quotes, and you can get a return flight from Heathrow to Chicago for only £483 in Economy - obviously use your Avios to upgrade that for free to Premium or business - but to me that is still a return flight for less than £500.
Is this a new low price thing or has it always been like that?
I'll be honest, I've never flown with BA other than short haul

Aah ok, how do you tell what you can and can't upgrade with?
I've noticed the BAEC site is down at the moment and not up til 6am, so I presume that if I ran the same quote whilst logged in then it would give me a higher base rate?
For only medium haul (ie US/Canada/Caribbean) I'm happy with Premium/WT+

BA has been trying to compete recently on longhaul journeys, particularly from the Middle East to North America (in my limited experience).
On the other hand, prices for short haul have sky rocketed. Any one based in regional outposts will confirm that fares from MAN, GLA and EDI have all increased with BA taking advantage of their monopoly on the UK Domestic routes Bring it on VS!! (I am now prepared to be shot down in flames, and laughed all the way back to my original home on FT - the BD board ).
Also I have found Band 2 flights have also increased, but not noticed much difference on Band 1. Others will be able to comment on Band 3 & 4 which I have limited experience at best.

I've noticed the short haul has gone up a lot, too.
Last year a return flight to Rome for Xmas was around £130 with Alitalia or BA, this year they're closer to £200.

Any discounted economy tickets other than a ticket "with flexible conditions" will not be eligible for UUA.
From memory, the expensive economy tickets which you can UUA, assuming there is availability in that rather small W cabin, are Y, B and H.
I've noticed BA has been playing around with prices over the last two months, sales notwithstanding. For example, a one way ticket, LHR-SYD, 3 days before departure, was just £600. Normally it's in the £1000-2500s. Suspect it is competition with EK.

Not necessarily remarkable. Did you stop away over a Saturday night? If not, then 1610GBP in Y sounds about par for the course. Presumably it would have booked as a flexible fare in Y, B or H?
