T5 Security.... BA F and CW amenity bags - what is your experience?

I travel once or twice a month on long haul at the moment which always involves an onward domestic connection to MAN on my way home. Today I was asked by T5 Security to remove the contents of my F amenity bag and place the liquids into my clear bag.

This is the first time I've ever been asked to do this. Normally the bags are unopened and I give them to family members.

This isn't a rant, just wondering if I have been incredibly lucky for the last few years! The Security agent insisted that the contents should always be removed for the scan and that she had never known this not to be the case.

I had assumed that the unopened BA amenity kits were immune from this at T5. I always put the kits in the tray next to my clear zip bag and have never been asked to open them before today.

I'm in the same position of the OP. Never been asked to open the amenity kit.

You've all been lucky. Rules are pretty clear that all liquids are placed in the clear bag.

Interestingly she told me that she and her colleagues normally worked at Stanstead.

I must say she was not surly and was very friendly. Not a rant at all.

No argument on that score. I usually shove the bag in my carry on and then promptly for get about it.

I had the Stansted staff (wearing Stansted branded uniforms!) at connections security in October, made to empty the amenity bags.

Was all done very civilly, so no complaints.

Ive been asked to do that before with a BA amenity bag. I just leave the amenity bag on board now as i cant be bothered with the hassle if they do make you fish everything out to go into another bag....

I always find it funny on this forum that there is such disdain shown to "clueless easyjet holidaymakers" at security, yet many don't bother separating out their liquids which surely slows everyone down.

I have never been asked to place the amenity bag contents in a plastic bag because I have already done it before I reach security.

I think the point being made is that it doesn't slow everyone down - or rather it didn't until the STN SS arrived to assist at T5. The amount of liquid is minimal, probably why it's generally ignored. A couple of sachets and that's about it.

If I was asked to remove the liquids I'd be throwing the wole thing in the trash.

I've even had 2 in my suitcase, they didn't say anything.

Ive found that they rarely mention anything if I have a very tiny liquid in my bag (such as the ones in the amenity bag) as well. Depends on the airport of course.

The only time I flew BA F with an onward connection, the guy saw my amenity kit and told me to put the contents in a clear bag.

The fact that I was holding it in my hand openly may have made this more likely to spot, as opposed to tucked away in a carry on.

Connecting from SFO to GLA at T5 last year while approaching x-ray machine I realised I had amenity bag in my holdall and mentioned this to security staff member. She said that's fine, but had a look anyway and seeing it was still sealed she returned it to my holdall.
