OpUp, OpDown...

Hello peeps,

Thought I'd share an experience just recently, for the benefit of the collective. I've just arrived in Toronto after a reasonable flight (more below). On connecting at T5 (inbound from ZRH) I got the magic 'beep' and upgraded to WT+, nice

In the flounge I then happened to refresh my BP and saw another upgrade to CW, even nicer!

But a few moment later I got a PA from the guest services folk, surely could not be the ultimate upgrade, all the way from economy to First (albeit full fare flexible economy, due to work policy )...

..
..
.

It wasn't. Turns out they are only allowed to do a single class of OpUp and they were just checking I had my 'old' WT+ BP. I didn't know that so thought I'd share it. I did actually get a double upgrade once so maybe it's a change or I got lucky that time. Anyway I got thinking about it and actually it's fair enough - after all why should some goldie get bumped past a silver who paid cash for WT+?

Flight itself was fine... on time, competent crew. They did have a broken oven so dinner took an age to come. Also aged was the plane... IFE on the old 12 channel looped system. I seriously hope this is upgraded soon! I also got to muse the possibility of getting the same seating in a cabin 16" narrower (the great BA 787 seat plan debate going on in the other thread...)

ZRH-YYZ has been a successful route for me for upgrades this year (from CW to F )....shame they wouldn't allow the double

Where were you hoping to go after the upgrade to F?

Well hypothetically, WT+ could be full of families / groups that don't want to be split up, so if there was only one seat available in CW and you were the only single passenger, then a double opup would make sense.

I assume heckenhocker was referring to the OP?

It would appear that YYZ flights are often overbooked. My one and only opup to date was to YYZ (CW to F).

I've a double op-up (Y-J) twice! Once JFK-MAN, the other LHR-EWR. I think I was Silver on both occasions.

Not wanting to split hairs, but did BA ever offer WT+ on MAN-JFK? I thought it remained 2 class?

Congratulations on the OpUp. I had a double OpUp (WTP->F) on LHR-NRT last year so such things are certainly possible. Originally a WT ticket paid by the employer, I was offered a POUG to WTP for £149 which I took (and paid for myself). OpUp to CW at check in and to F at the gate.

But who was I trying to trip up .

The withdrawal of the upgrade at LHR smells a bit as I'm sure there have been many, many reports of double op-ups on here.

Yup, I've had this too (SYD-SIN; Y->CW), but only that one time. This time the lounge agent made sure I understood that 'they cannot do double upgrades' and 'terribly sorry', etc. All handled with aplomb... etc. Will see what happens on the return (where I am in WT+anyway as the upgrade option was cheap and I want to be able to snooze a bit).
