BA taking over/increasing flights when SAS goes?

Unless some miracle it looks like SAS is gone very soon.

In addition to Norwegian and maybe Finnair would BA be interested in any of the routes? Or is it just no £££ to be made?

I love the frankness of the quote

I've always been a big fan of SAS (and I thought they were an alliance of individual companies, but maybe that was in the past).

I'm not sure what the competition is like at the moment but my feeling is they don't have many routes that BA don't already have, unless they start up BA Scandinavia (and that seems unlikely).

Bloomberg reporting all aircraft outside Scandinavia have been ordered to be refuelled and ready to return to home base immediately.

Crews told to take enough cash away on trips to pay for expenses if the worst happens.

Very sad...

My thoughts are with everyone involved with SAS at this horrible time, it really is the staff which are quite often forgotten when companies, (not just airlines) go tits up

There is Sun Air. Don't know how they'd be affected by a collapse of SAS.

Just spoken to a SAS crew downroute, they are very pessimistic about the next week...

About 3% (almost equivalent to the size of Virgin's holding).

It is sad for all involved. However SAS has been struggling with costs for years. I remember talking with a fellow HR person at SAS and hearing something of the difficulties back in 2008.

I genuinely am not trying to be political...but don't the staff get a vote on whether to accept or not? Or is this a case of the union putting the principles of all (Swedish collective wage negotiation principle) above the jobs of the few (SAS)?

SAS have been on life support for years actually. Inferior products, often more expensive, poor lounges, leg room on LCC level.

High costs, complex shareholder structure (three Sovereigns!) militant unions, ageing fleet, a massive pension debt which needs to be financed soon (which is the reason for this last crisis) etc... I've said it for years; an orderly bankrupcy and then restart al la Swiss is the only option.

BA781 ARN-LHR was rammed full tonight, open speculation amongst pax whether people had stopped booking SAS as a result of the news...?

The OSL flights I have been on recently have been rammed even with SAS in action. I hate to think what it will be like without their capacity.

781 and 780 is often over sold FYI and BA have been doing very well on the Scandi routes the last few years and 2012 in particular. 780 picks up lots of connecting PAX due to it's timing and arrives 5.30pm which is a good timing.

TBH BA blast SK to pieces in every aspect on the LHR-ARN/CPH/OSL routes.

Might we see more of the ARN, OSL and CPH sectors go to the 763 ?

Probably more 321's if needed as the 763 is used primarily for "special" cargo.

Care to hint further at the "special" nature of the cargo ?
