Exclamation Introducing two new features to the BA forum

I am delighted to announce the introduction of a couple of new technical features to our forum.

Wikiposts
Firstly, the introduction of wikiposts. Simply put, a wikipost is a post that can be added to any thread and once enabled will take space at the top of the thread page. Where a thread runs into several pages, the wikipost will display at the top of each page. We see wikiposts adding value to busy threads, such as our popular Tesco, Amex threads where it is now possible to add general reference information, current promotions etc. at the top of each page.

Wikiposts are designed to allow their content to be added, amended, and edited by all members. This capacity is currently disabled while we bed in the technology, but we anticipate it coming online very soon. Wiki maintenance will initially be handled by the BA forum moderators and ambassadors. Another feature of wikiposts is that you can choose to display them or hide them. Each wikipost has a collapse/expand button.

To give you a better feel for this new function, we've added wikiposts to five threads:
BA Forum Dashboard (please take a moment to read this sticky)
The primer has been moved into the wiki, which in turn allows you to collapse this content, so you can get to the widget links quicker.

Your guide to the Executive Club, attaining status and earning Avios
Your guide to spending Avios [Beta]
Preface, contents and acknowledgements have now moved into the wiki. Having the contents list at the top of each page brings navigational improvements.

[Executive Club sale, 14-19 November] 25% off the Avios on direct longhaul flights
Wikipost contains the offer description and T&C. These can now be viewed at the top of each page.

Finally (for now) a wikipost has been added to the Special Seoul launch offer | BA Board excursion thread. Stez and BotB are working in concert to maintain the wiki so that the latest information is easily accessible.
If you have any threads in mind that could benefit by adding a wikipost, please post your suggestions below.

Document attachments
The other new feature is the ability to attach documents to any post. This will be handled by the moderator team. Should you wish to attach a spreadsheet, pdf, or text document to your post, please PM any of the forum moderators, who will gladly assist.

Sample:
Attached Files
File Type: pdf Frequent_Flyer_Benefits.pdf (155.6 KB, 23 views)

PDF attachments could be quite useful - for instance Nikki could provide the mods with a copy of each months menus that could be uploaded.

Wiki functionality has been introduced initially on four forums:
  • Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
  • American AAdvantage
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Emirates Skywards

Document attachments is site wide.

No - there's at least 1 running on the AA board that's been there a couple of weeks.

They take up quite a bit of room on the page but I think they're a very useful addition.

That's a good idea in principle but the menus are route and class specific, so would take quite a lot of work.

BA might consider putting it on BA.com though as it could work alongside the entertainment (what's on board) feature.

Thank you, I think, though I didn't understand much of the Latin, which I missed out on at school, being a bit of a Dunce!

I'm rather bewildered and confused by it all but far be it from me to get in the way of innovation.

Discovered the new feature on the Seoul thread - an excellent development, even if it does mean more work for the Mods.

Excellent work. A real plus to functionality. Clearly a lot of thought went into this (recent mod get-together?) so a big thanks to all involved.

Great new features that should really help in several ways...thanks to those that thought of the idea, those that implemented them and the MOD's for taking the risk of letting us loose on them!

One point I have just noticed as feedback...the expand / contract setting seems to be global...is it possible to have individual settings for each thread for that user? Or try to default to expanded view on 'new' threads the logged in user looks at? I hope that makes sense...

For instance: if I contract the wikipost when I am on the Seoul thread...and then I click on the Avios sale thread...the wiki post is contracted, even though I haven't visited that thread before, so new users may miss important info on threads with this feature until they get used to looking for the wikiposts...

Excellent new features though, thanks again for the additional features which should bring real benefits!
