does this seem right?

So looking for a flight using my avios points from LHR to HOU for december this year and it comes to something like 50000 airmiles + £539. REALLY? its like im paying for another seat!

why so expensive?
This is using premium economy by the way, and I am on the bronze tier.

It certainly doesn't seem right, but it does seem correct. BA assesses hefty fuel charges on long-haul award redemptions.

right now seems that the LARGE amount of spending and flying I have done is useless since I still have to fork out a hefty amount redeeming my airmiles.

BA: I want a refund and im going to charge you extra. cos I can!

Due to the BA sale I'm getting 45000 avios, but looks like its normally 60k ?

Out of interest how many avios do you have ? After all there's a sale on and it might look better for CW instead ?

I'd say with that level of taxes book a flight plus hotel and earn some more avios, also with what you already have you can upgrade to CW.

What's wrong with HOU? It's the city code for all Houston airports.

I think it's in fact the code for hobby airport which is not one that BA serve. CornishSimons question arose because I suspect he was worried the OP was not using the most efficient routing to get to Houston. And ending up in an airport where they tend to assemble scones in the wrong order.
