When was World Traveller Plus introduced

All,

I’d appreciate any help in a rearguard action to stop my line manager travelling in World Traveller Plus or upgrading with Avios to upgrade. Their argument is that our corporate travel regulations are ‘old’ and were written long before premium economy or World Travel Plus existed. Does anyone know approximately when BA introduced an ‘enhanced’ economy cabin? My manager argues that World Traveller Plus is really business/Club class. They obviously haven’t travelled in the cabin!

I think WT+ under different names must have been in place for at least 10 years but would like some confirmation.

Thanks for any help on this which is much appreciated!

Introduced in 1999/2000 with New Club World and the rollout wasn't complete until 2005 iirc. It has always been called World Traveller Plus.

I'd refer your manage to the fare classes. J = business class = Club World. W = Premium Economy = WT+

Don't forget that Virgin Atlantic introduced 'Midclass' later re-badged as premium economy even further back.

BA WT+ Has been around for around 12 years now.

WT+ is an economy product...... I can swing this past our travel people. If they try and get me to travel Y (last time it was LON-MAD-EZE on IB)~ I say that I am sadly not available......

WT+ was introduced in 2000 along with the original "Dusk" flat bed CW seat. The CW seat went into pilot deployment on the upper deck of the 747 to JFK from January to March 2000. Full deployment followed shortly after incorporating the F revisions (stick on walnut cladding and a move from blue to grey upholstery), The Dusk Flat bed in J with original white petals, WT+ and new WT both with Utopia patterns embedded in their upholstery.

In 1999 WT+ was deployed only as part of a seating test with BA HQ at Waterside where some of us got to spend a few hours sitting in various example seat pitches drinking latte and reading the papers In 1999 the Dusk CW seat was still under general publicity embargo until very late in the year when the patent was approved and it was revealed to the press but not embodied until the beginning of 2000.

The original Economy Plus Seat was deployed by EVA International. I recall flying this product back in 2007 and being very impressed as it was rather close to the BA cradle seat which was still relatively new at the time.

Well I went on the 'New' Wt (NOT WT+) seat on the 'A' series 777 ZZZE on her 3rd revenue service to DXB..... this was back in 2006 IIRC.... so the suggestion that the new WT only arrived in 2000 is not correct...

And with the massive decimation of the TLV and CAI service, is no longer complete.

If Israel insist on entering the eurovision song contest, surely they should only get Club Europe, no?

So I should blame you for the fact I can never quite get comfortable and always end with a pain in my lower back

We insist, do we now? But then I guess the same goes for Moscow... And for a route where both daily flights were operating pretty much at full capacity pretty much all the time (especially in the premium cabins) I am still at a loss as to what BA was thinking... But that discussion is for a different thread.

These are an internationally agreed standard, although there are variations from airline to airline. See here. A business class ticket will have a business class fare code.

ZZZE entered service with BA in 1996 www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b777-27109.htm, I'm assuming that's what you meant to post.

There's a crew training video for the launch of new WT on YouTube that dates to '96 IIRC too, remember the stacked meal trays?. But 'new WT' was launched before WT+.

The Utopia fabric pattern to the WT seat only arrived in 2000.

Although I think 2000 is well before 2006
