Chrome won't allow us to load the extension direct now
Just tried to download this.
Chrome is refusing to allow extensions now other than via the chrome web store.
Of course, they say it is for our safety.
I'm wondering if this new restriction it has more to do with tracking who does what now, and with their revenue plans, later
How do I find this in the webstore they want me to use?
Or is there a workround?

OK, download this file and unzip it, then click on the little spanner, settings, extensions, tick the developer mode box, then browse to the extension and install it.
Sorry for the trouble!
Any problems, feel free to PM me
I'll get something more permanent sorted out for the next version.
Thanks for letting me know

thanks pangalactic but still blocked I'm afraid.
Ticking the developer box only got me more info on existing extensions (even after closing and reloading).
The Get More Extensions box gets me only onto to the ****ed chome webstore.
There is a developer option for extensions. But that talks about how a developer is supposed to provide a link to the developer's own website. No hint of it letting you install a file you already downloaded from a developer, as with all my previous extensions (that I rely on for security etc.)
I can see respected journals like pcmag starting to cover this very negatively, if this is the way google thinks they can restrict people's own right to add their own chosen extensions.
Took a look around the other tools and settings options. Can't see a way out.
The nearest thing to a version number that I can see on 'about chrome' is 21.0.1180.79 m.
If I wanted to be in a restrictive Apple-type land and not allowed to add my own extensions, I'd have an iphone and an iPad and an ipod and a MAC. Getting very ****ed o** with this.
Google ain't great enough for me to put up with this.
Thinking I had better switch out of Google and make Firefox my main browser instead. Oh, and send my newly purchased Nexus 7 back or at least switch to Opera on it.
