I wasn't aware of this until I asked thepointsguy on his blog but regarding the Companion ticket for spending $30,000 in a year, the year is a CALENDAR year, not an anniversary year from the date you opened the card.
I thought that was handy to know because we're already down 3.5 months in 2011!

Thanks for the replies. I found a different CC status number, which gave me the automated "30 days wait, etc, etc".
Then yesterday, logged into my Chase/CO debit account and found a new Chase VISA card listed on my account page, only 2 days after I applied. Nice!

So an award flight from ORD-HNL on American would just require us to pay these/similar taxes?
No. BA currently charges $2.50 for a redemption on AA for the ORD-HNL nonstop (same fee in the other direction). If you connect or stopover in California on the award, I think BA will charge you an extra $2.50 for the additional segment. None of the other fees/taxes associated with a cash ticket applies.

You can use the ITA website to estimate the amount of taxes/fees/surcharges you can expect to pay on a BAEC redemption.
http://matrix.itasoftware.com/
For a HOU-HNL coach fare, ITA lists the following taxes/fees:
US Transportation Tax (US) $14.11
US Alaska/Hawaii Departure Tax (US) $16.40
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $10.00
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $16.50
US Flight Segment Tax (ZP) $14.80
Note, not all of the above are fixed fees: the US Transportation Tax is calculated as a percentage of the base fare (7.5%) and thus works out as zero against a redemption fare.

BA Visa Card 100K Miles promo question?
I recently signed up for the 100K mile Visa program thinking that 100K points would be awarded upon meeting a couple of conditions.
As I read through the promo stuff, I just noticed that 50K will be rewarded after the first purchase and another 50K if you spend $2500USD in first three months...so far so good.
However, I have also noticed that it refers to the 50K miles as if it is a coupon or just an award for economy travel...not the miles that I thought it was.
Does anyone know whether the award is a voucher for travel or if the account is awarded the 50K as miles to be used as one wishes?
Thank you to anyone who responds!

It is a regular offer of miles subject to conditions that are very easy to meet. US only, I am afraid.

It will be miles posted to your BAEC account. No coupons or vouchers.

I called Chase at 800-432-3117, and then navigated my way through the voice system until I could reach a CSR.
Applied last Monday night, 4/11,...was approved by Wednesday (according to my pre-existing online Chase account),...called on Thursday night and asked for expedited shipment of card,...rep said it would arrive in 2 business days at no cost to me. I expect my card to arrive tomorrow, Monday, 4/18.
