An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

For the second time this year, no POUGs offered on short haul in either direction. The first was BA Holidays, and the second was a corporate TA. I have usually been offered POUGs at OLCI on corporate TA bookings before.

LHR-MUC £64

Took it because I need the 40TPs for Silver, with two reward bookings coming up before my next paid flight gives me very welcome lounge access for six flights

POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking
Catching up with this, this point certainly is helpful to keep in mind with last-minute weekend planning, that if booking late in the week for the upcoming weekend, not to expect, nor hope , for one of these.

I put this question on another thread which was obviously the wrong place! When booking an ET flight at the lowest fare or HBO I can upgrade before I finish the booking so why can't I do this on a flight/hotel booking, even weeks later in MMB there is no opportunity to do it. I phoned the Silver line and was told because it is a "holiday " booking and then told it was because it was the lowest fare but so was the flight only fare? There seems plenty of availability, 31/10/14 to WAW BA 0850/851.

I think they can become instantly available where the fare is non refundable under the 24 hour cool off rule.

During the flight-only booking process, you are offered an opportunity to "upgrade" before you have paid for the flight. This is not an upgrade in the same sense, because all that is happening is that you are being offered an upsell - you are simply booking the higher cabin at the outset. That's why, for example, there is no change fee involved at this time. You simply pay the fare for what you have been persuaded to buy.

Once you have concluded the booking, things are different. If you still have a flight-only booking, then changes and upgrades are subject to the fare rules or (if offered) the POUG rules. If you have converted it into a holiday booking by adding another component, then it will be dealt with as a holiday booking.

The rules for the post-booking situations may be frustrating sometimes, but there's nothing in the pre-booking "upgrade" from which you can properly extrapolate because that's an entirely different situation.

Good to know, thank you!

Seems like if one is booking on a Wed, Thurs, or Friday for weekend travel, that eliminates the possibility of receiving a POUG offer befre the Sat/Sun travel dates.

Just been offered £599 for WTP to CW for LHR-HKG later this week. Not tempted and I'm going to wait to see if the UUA availability opens up over the next few days

Also quite expensive.

My wife naturally wants me to take the £323 (though she does have a very bad annular tear so the space is good for her), but too expensive for the both of us at the moment. Especially only being one way. Will be going for exit seat and possible AUP.

You don't want to do that too often, you'll end up on the AUP naughty step!

very, I had this exact POUG for £189 in May. I snapped it up, and subsequently got the magic beep at the gate. Best £189 I ever spent, slept like a baby.

Updated LHR-LAX to 229/599 GBP. WT is 5 over and 'they have to move people'. Obviously they hope for customers buying up to WTP. I am well over my TP quota for the year so did not take it.

Sounds like this was offered at the airport? In which case it is an AUP and should be posted here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html

I've not done it once yet POUG has always come to the rescue in enough time.
