disapearing award seating issue

I am looking to take my family of 4 from dfw-cph next august using 241 certificates. the dates we wanted aug 2 return the 14th, the BA website showed 4f outbound and 8j inbound

I booked my wife and youngest child on the flights we wanted using the 241 certificate and then returned to book the second using my 241; however, when I return it shows the are no more award seats available

the ba us office is closed until 730eastern, so I guess I have to wait until then, but not the desired outcome.

Is this a common or known issues that I should have anticipated? what do people normally do in this situation, book the flights over the phone with an agent to make sure they get all four using 2 241 certs?

I assume my likely outcome here is to get a refund? not ideal, but I guess it gets me back to ground zero

Award availability seems to get snapped up quite quickly, if you see it book it. People booking just to LHR or through to any other city could have snapped it up.

Did you check to see if the LHR-CPH flight is the problem, that is, is the long haul availability to LHR still there? If so, book the DFW-LHR and either add the CPH flight later or redeem or buy it separately.

There is always a risk if trying to book multiple people in separate transactions. Inventory management is a dynamic thing, the system can react instantly to demand and decide to add/remove availability at any time.

On BA you can combine you and your spouse (and kids) accounts into a "family" account. This combines everyone's Avios points making them all available for a booking. I do not know if this also combines 241 certificates though. But that might have enabled you to book all four of you in one transaction, and select from both of your certificates.

Alternatively, use two bowsers open at the same time (e.g. firefox + chrome) one logged in as yourself, another as your spouse. Then go through the booking process in parallel... never let one get too far ahead of the other.

Or, easiest and safest is probably to call the BA agents and have them do it for you, they could book all four then pull miles/certificates from separate accounts [this is what I did when using 241's for family JFK-LHR-JFK last year, outbound in J return in F].

As for your current booking, by US law you can cancel within 24 hours and have no financial penalty.

Using the Chase 2-4-1, can I fly SEA-LHR-JFK. I seem to recall some rule about you have to return to the same "zone" as you originated.

We flew SAN-LHR-BOS last year using Chase 241 so your itinerary should work as well.

Yes, as long as you start and end in the US it will be fine.

You can do an open-jaw with a 241.

The issue with same zones comes up if you try to change your inbound to a different city after you have flown the outbound. In this situation you can only change to a city in the same redemption band or zone.

Apologies if this has been asked before.. I admit to not reading the entire thread....

How hard is it to change a 2 for 1 ticket... i.e. say all that's available right now is C; but I really want to fly F... how hard is it to change a ticket booked 2 for 1 from C to F. And the ticket isn't a straight XXX-LHR but with a connection to the continent.. Also, say for instance changing the return once travel has started? Is it possible to make changes or does BA insist on canceling the ticket and starting all over again?

thanks

If there is availability, you just call and pay the additional avios and the change fee (you may also have to pay a phone fee but this isn't always assessed). You can also change the inbound portion (after having flown the outbound), you again have to call. If you want to change cities on the return then see the links in the post above yours.

So I understand changing the bands on the return is not allowed (? different avios cost) thus is changing the cabin on the return allowed?

People have changed to a higher cabin after the outbound is flown using the Amex 241. I can't remember if anyone has reported it using the Chase voucher but I assume you should be able to.
