New Airbus G-EUYF Spacesaver seats through CE is it the end as we know it?
Just had reports in that G-EUYF the latest addition to the BA short hall fleet is fitted with the Spacesaver seats throughout. This means no convertible seats in CE with the middle seat empty.
Is this the sign that CE is doomed, they are going back on their decision to go back to wider seats again or just the fact that this AC was ordered and configured before the less room / more room in CE debacle?

There are convertible versions of the space saver seats. The middle armrests move inwards to make the aisle and window seat wider. There is a table that drops to cover the middle seat. Maybe they have installed these convertible versions?
They trialled these ages ago on one plane but decided to keep the 2+3 config. Now they are using 2+2 maybe they have decided to get the SS seats again.
There is a demo of them on the Recaro website.

I also received reports about this new Airbus and the information I've been advised, from somebody actually on board, is that the spacesaver seats do NOT convert. Somebody tried to convert them to put in the CE configuration.
Don't tell me after BA admitted they got it wrong with Skinny Europe, and the subsequent return to Flab Europe seats, they've now done it again. What is WW trying to do - send all passengers to other European carriers to ensure they get a proper business class seat?
Like CT-UK I'm very concerned this is the end of CE and another of Wacky Willie's ideas to turn BA into the next FR. Bad move, very bad move

Seems to be the way short haul in Europe is heading with all the major carriers not just BA. It'll only be available on the longer routes.

Not good news if true. I would have thought BA would follow the example set by Lufthansa. Its short haul seat has a very simple/quick conversion mechanism. LH pitch is a bit on the mean side but that is another subject for another forum
So why would BA do this? Product continuity across BA and IB short haul fleets?

The reason BA (along with other European carriers) do not offer US-style short-haul business class is because the cabins need to be modular, correct? So when flying Luxembourg there will be plenty of business, whereas flights to Madrid will probably feature less.
Not that US "first" class seats are terribly comfortable (I always stick to the leather...), but they're still better than an economy seat masquerading as a business class seat.

Of course if I find myself on a spacesaver CE flight, I will be claiming compensatory miles from BA due to incorrect product information - the website clearly states that CE has wider seats.

Sounds like Virgin Blue, in Australia. Same size seat, but the middle is blocked out and that is called "Premium whY" = JOKE.

My understanding is the armrests do actually swing in a small way towards the centre - leaving slightly larger outside seats and the table covering the armrests. The picture seems to show this - the armrest in the premium seat picture would be too narrow for the centre seat if it didn't move. (The seat back remains the same size.)

Well, your roving Short Haul reporter took the chance yesterday to nip abord this aricraft as it was on the stand next to the one I was operating, and seeing as we had no flight crew and were waiting for an engineer to arm the emergency lights, we were going no where.
I can confirm, after having been onboard this aircraft, that it is correct, there are no Club Europe converter seats, Euro Traveller "Space Saver" seats throughout... No foling table to cover the middle seat, no movable arm rests to create a wider seat...
All very very disappointing. No pictures hung on the front bulkhead either, well, some big old nast holes drilled in the wall, but no pictures... A lot of minor chnages in galley and crew areas though... no doubt another variation we will have to learn!
Sorry to confirm the bad news guys and gals...
Bad Regards,
BBB
