OZ was NOT accepted. Gave my card with the new number and no "BD*G" was listed on my boarding pass, so immediately gave them my card with the old number and "BD*G" showed as normal.
The purpose of this thread is to show those cases where the new number CAN work for automatic crediting of miles - not that it always will. And it has noting to do with status being recognised.
With regard to your status showing on a BP - there isn't always a realtime relationship - the systems are increasingly addressing a database of such information (realtime or cached, I cannot say), but older airport systems, or poorly programmed ones etc. just capture your FFP affilliation from your card and add a generic BDP or whatever - and there may be a routine on mid-generation systems that recognises numbers starting with 1, as *G. Check-in agents can alter this manually for you. For instance, LH's systems in DUB still don't recognise BD*G numbers automatically - old or new - so at check-in, they add it for you.
When modular mayhem happened in bmi a few years back, I stopped flying bmi and I briefly fell back to BD*S - but when I inserted my out of date BD*G card into the self-check-in machines - the boarding passes still displayed a *G on them. Doesn't work now, I'm told.

Now that most airlines started recognizing the new longer numbers, should I change the already registered BD numbers for my upcoming SQ flights from the old numbers to the new longer numbers?
I managed to add my DC number to a CO flight booked on Expedia, something which wouldn't happen until last week. I tried doing the some on CO's website, but it didn't work.
