FRA is in zone 1 unfortunately.

Seems I was mistaken about the NH F seat I quoted earlier, it is LH. There is however a business seat going for around my planned departure date on NH.

Anyone experienced NH Business?

Not a problem. We all had to learn this stuff at some point. Anyway, we want to pack you off in style so we are duty bound to help!

Never done NH before, so can't help on that one though.

Ok. You are going to find it next to impossible to find an F seat with NH (although it can be done.. but they are very very very rare to come by).

Now if you are wanting to travel direct from europe then LX (Swiss Intl) airlines are the best IMO. Check out what they have to offer on their website and it is also very likely that you will get the new LX F seat (yet to be unveiled although set to be very nice) since you are departing so late in the year.

My personal choice (and I am sure many others) would be to go with singapore airlines via SIN although unfortunately there is only business availability LHR-SIN and FRA-SIN in october (note that these are the only 2 routes with redeemable F).

Another choice would be to go via Bangkok with thai airways in F. There is plenty of availability in F from european cities in October.

Remember a nice thing about award tickets with BMI is you can mix and match *A airlines on one ticket and you are also allowed to stopover somewhere enroute.

So for example you could do something like the following:
MAD-ZRH-BKK-SIN-NRT:
Madrid-Zurich (swiss business class)
Zurich-Bangkok (swiss first class or thai first class)
Maybe stopover in thailand for a weeks holiday
Bangkok-Singapore (swiss first class or singapore first class)
Singapore-Tokyo (Singapore frst class)

This would cost you 25k miles + £170 or 50k miles

So if you want something like that here is what you could put together with availability today:
MAD-ZRH LX C 1st Oct
ZRH-BKK LX F 1st Oct
stopover in thailand for a week
BKK-SIN LX F 9th Oct
SIN-NRT SQ F 10th Oct

Note also that the swiss A343's are going to be refurbished to contain a new F product so there is a high possibility you might get the new F ZRH-BKK-SIN and also there is speculation that SIN-NRT 744 service might be changed to A380 by end of april in which case you would be put in a singaore airlines suite.

If you just want to get there ASAP then there is a swiss flight ZRH-NRT on 4th Oct available also.

DME-SIN might have some availability, too. Of course one would have to rough it in BD J to get to DME first

I'm off to NRT in May on Swiss, first class. Absolutely no problems with availability. (You won't see Swiss on the ANA tool so ask one of us to look it up or take a change and ring BMI cold!)

LH F is also an option of course, no 'cash and miles' on LH F though which is why I went Swiss.

NH F is meant to be excellent. It seems that they often open up a seat or two a week or so from departure. You may therefore want to be book the Swiss flight and keep an eye on ANA to see if the NH flights from FRA, CDG or LHR (your only options) open up at the last minute.

I searched a bit for an answer to this question, but:

What are the charges to change flights? I understand it's either GBP15 or GBP25...

Obviously, it's possible to change carriers, if there is availability...

the direct DME-SIN flight in on the 77W so no premium seats.

Close , it's GBP20 + any difference (increase) in taxes and surcharges.

That is exactly the type that has the new F product. Or did you mean it's impossible to get an award?

Correct, it is impossible. SQ only release award tickets to other programs on the planes without the revised J & F products. So the 77W, A380 and A345 are all unavailable for awards except in Y. This very much limits the options to the 744s and 772s operating a few of the European routes.

So are the new A330's excluded as well? Especially as they will be going onto some of the Oz routes

Hopefully not. This thread over on the SQ forum mentions that there are apparantly KrisFlyer "saver" awards available on the new A330s, which aren't available on A380, 77W, etc. So hopefully they will also release seats to *A.

I don't believe so. They appear to be redeemable. I think it is because they are being considered as regional planes mainly, albeit a big region with much nicer than average seats
