Same day return: can I check in for both flight at the same time?

Hi guys,
Been a while since I have done a same day return with BD...

Off to DUB next week and just wondering whether to buy 2 one ways or a return.
Reason for buying two one ways is I am not 100% sure what time I want to head back yet, but I don't want to miss out on the fare I am getting for LHR-DUB, so thought I would book that, and wait a day or two before booking DUB-LHR.

If I book as a return will I be able to check in, choose seat, and print boarding card for the return flight when I check in at LHR?
And what if my return is for the same day but on a separate booking?

Or will I be able to check in online?
Can't remember if you can do that for domestic or not...

Going on the cheapest of the cheap sale fares (might use GUV, will see...) if that makes a difference.

I've done LBA-LHR-LBA in a day and was given boarding passes for both legs at the first check in, so I would have thought so in theory.

I take same day returns pretty regularly and find the best way is to book as two one ways and do OLCI (yes, you can) for them both the previous day at T-24 for each flight.

IME, they can't check you in in LHR for your return flight unless it is on the same PNR. However, you can certainly OLCI from home or elsewhere from mroe or less H-24 onwards, even from one of the webpoints in the BD lounge if need be.

But they can do it at the ticket desk, if not at check-in.
