Thumbs up Scored R class on SQ using BD miles - Lucky!

My first posting on FT. I accumulate over 200,000 BMI status miles annually, mostly on DUB - LHR with a few Atlantics to make it up. Thought it was time to use some of them up. I received an e-mail today from BMI confirming that I had been moved from O class on an SQ 747 to R class on an A380 in January 2009 SIN - LHR. I originally booked the ticket (PER - SIN - LHR - DUB) using miles only, had it immediately ticketed and paid the £109 taxes 4 months ago.

The ICC is so bad / misinformed having many incompetent members of staff, that I contacted SQ in SIN (rather than have the booking altered by ICC) to confirm the status of the booking. SQ advised that they will honour my ticketed O booking in R class. I'm sure there aren't many FTs as lucky as this.

I secured LH F and NZ C outbound to NRT / AKL / SYD on a separate one way redemption.

Reading many posts I wonder is there some preferential treatment on redemptions for customers who are BD * G ++++ I could earn 5 gold cards per year, pity we couldn't have R class service from the ICC!

It's nothing to do with BD*G - I am BD*S and I had to pay for that! I also have an O redemption that has become R on a miles plus cash redemption. It's just luck at having redeemed on a flight that will be changed to A380.

No, I know a few who are travelling on the A380 Suites using BD miles too cos orginally its booked in F award before SQ changed the flights.

I was on a flight too, but I cancelled it cos I wasn't all that impressed with SQ Suites and decided I had better things to do than to specifically go out of my way to just fly the A380 Suites on New Years Day.

Anyway, welcome to FlyerTalk !

I too have several forthcoming sectors originally booked in SQ F (O class) in the next 12 months that have now been switched to SQ Suites (R class) on the A380 - nice if you can get it - pure luck though? Well, in my case I did book as far in advance as I could for 2 reasons - the forthcoming demise of DC and the good chance of A380's being rolled out LHR-SIN-LHR and SIN-NRT. A strategy that has paid off

Yep, there are many who are now booked into the Suites using Bmi miles, and most of the time it has nothing to do with luck.

Seems that they like to honour bmi redemptions but not Krisflyer ones. From reading the SQ forum it would seem almost non-existant for a Kris reward in F on 747 to be honoured into R on 380 if equipment changes. They get offered J class or another 747 flight.

Ouch. That must be really peeing several of their members off.

Even if it had been ticketed before the equipment change??

SQ have been shafting their frequent flyers for quite some time now.

Yup. Because there isnt a "first class" on the 380 only "suites", so no direct mapping. So they offer business class or first class on the next available aircraft (747). We all know that the "suites" are first class, but they dont have to play ball.

Yes, I realise Suites "replaced" First on the A380 (and have flown Suites on a DC reward where equipment was changed from B744) am just shocked that they wouldn't honour the KF reward when ticketed! Rough! SQ are so arrogant, but, at the moment, they can be I suppose..

Could you clarify if that's before or after ticketing?

I know of someone who's ticketed on a Krisflyer award in O on SIN-LHR which got changed to R. Not only did SQ honour her booking, they emailed her apologising for the "inconvenience" caused in having to travel Suites rather than First.
