Doing a one way from Chicago to LA.... Help!

Hey all!

I live here in Ireland and could really do with some help in booking my vehicle in chicago.

I am looking at getting an SUV as need something that will do the miles in comfort!

But I'm looking at $1400 for the trip from 8/30 to 9/16.

Any help with this via coupon codes/drop off fees/mileage or any other advice would be great!

Thanks to you all

D

A one-way of that length is difficult to do cheaply as you are putting a large # of miles on the car and leaving it far from where it started. Unless the car company has some particular desire to move cars that distance, I doubt you will find a really cheap deal for 2 weeks of an SUV and that great a distance. I suggest trying any/all discount codes in this thread, and checking all US rental car companies using good discount codes for the others as well. (You can find these on FT for almost every company)

Given the distance you are traveling you might also want to look into Auto Driveaway.

A972200 milage restrictions

Did anybody else notice that A972200 (Farmer's Insurance) doesn't have unlimited miles anymore?

I know it used to but now it says 250 miles limit and then each additional mile extra?

And the last time I used it I was not given any FF miles. I inquired and Avis said the corp contract did not allow for FF earning.

I think danmb is talking about driving miles, not FF miles.

Yes - in fact I posted this just up the thread less than a week ago. From my testing it seems to give 125 miles/day, so 250 miles would mean you booked a two day rental.

Booked a car from Jersey City, NJ 6/26-6/28

Getting a rate of $177 ($208 AI)

Is it possible to get this rate down a little bit? I have tried using all of the coupons I have (free weekend, free friday, etc) but none work because some how 6/26 is technically considered July 4th time to AVIS.

Sometimes you can book it with a business code, or something and get it a little cheaper. In most cases they won't ask you to prove it, but sometimes they do. If they do and you can't, it'll just make it the regular rate.

You should keep the printout from the booking, then go back and rebook the same thing... the rates change all the time, so you may get it cheaper.

AWD and/or coupons for Australia?

I am taking the family to Australia next week and I am going to need to rent a car on a few occasions. I have used the Avis D005297 for years now and it has always worked like a charm, but I was wondering if anyone had any codes that worked especially well for Australia (MEL and CNS) or "local" codes for Australia.

Thanks,

Onedog

Discount Codes Usage?

A couple of questions about using the Amature Sports Assoc. Program (AWD#D005297)...Has anyone used it in Canada? When used do the rental agents require proof that you should be using that specfic AWD# (ie. special card/membership)? Has anyone been denied the usauge of any codes or had to pay full prices?

I'm curious to know as I just book a 8 day rental in Halifax, NS, Canada sding the Amature Sport Assoc. Program AWD# is saving me almost $500!! It cut the regualar rate by over 50%!! I just don't want to be disappointed and stuck without a car...

Thanks!!

So far, once again, the cheapest rate I could find was using the Amateur Sports AWD.

Does anyone know if the Avis rental counter is located inside the CNS terminal or do we need to catch a shuttle bus? Our flight is currently scheduled to arrive CNS at 10:20 p.m. and the youngin's will probably be asleep so the more I know about where I need to be going at the airport ahead of time, the better.

Thanks,

Onedog
