This was great for my drive out to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam.
Does this count as an "upgrade"?

Reserved Full
Received some kind of small SUV
Asked if they had anything sporty and got Dodge Challenger Hemi
They said they had BMW 7 series now! But that would cost me extra.

Got it. No worries -- just wondering if I was missing anything! I need to try an XC60 or XC70 one of these days. Maybe today, since I'm flying into a New York snowstorm.

Still waiting to see one of these on the lot. I had hoped to find one at ORD or ATL this year, but no luck. My travel is all wrapped up for the year, but hopefully I will get one of these in 2014.

Pshh... This isnt a snowstorm. Just an overhyped weather system by the news.

What did you end up getting and from which station?

I often find in snowy weather in EWR that I am upgraded from Full to an SUV, but it typically has 2WD. LGA seems to be better at upgrades. JFK has not upgraded me at all, but I think I have always rented one ways from there.

Ask, and ye shall receive:

Location: LGA
Status: PC
Reserved: Full
Requested (by calling PC line from the plane, inspired by noah): Volvo XC60
Received: XC60 (base)

Yeah, I requested something AWD, but got a base model XC60 with FWD. I think this is my new favorite rental, even with the base model. No fancy stuff inside, but it's a very smooth and enjoyable car to drive. And, while I agree that the "snowstorm" in NY is overblown, I was still very happy to have antilock brakes and the Volvo safety reputation this morning.

I've rented at LGA twice now, and been very happy with the cars I got (Nissan Maxima, Volvo XC60).

Just be happy you don't get upgraded to a convertible.

AMS
PC
Booked compact
Given Fiat 500 cabriolet! I would love to toot around Amsterdam in the summer with this, but why do they hand these out in the winter!

Received: A 2014 Chevy Suburban 4WD

Walked the lot and saw an Infiniti M37 and was switched to it. Would of loved to take the Chevy but I was driving a good distance from the airport. Don't want the refill to be more expensive than the rental.

All in all, great car. I think this is one of the best cars in Avis's fleet (sub-premium, of course), and a steal when upgraded from an intermediate reservation.

My name wasn't on the board when I got there, which was OK because I was going to request something with AWD at the counter. First, they gave me a Mazda CX-9. I was fine with that but there was a Ford Fusion in the parking space with a customer behind the wheel. They then offered an Expedition, which I turned down.

The Enclave seems pretty nice. The only negative is that I haven't found how to set up Bluetooth yet.

OMA hasn't been great for upgrades recently, but seem to be making an effort now.

There seemed to be a system glitch in my booking. I was showing up twice on the board in two different spaces with very different cars. Talked to the agent about it and was given a third space number to go to with the Mustang. Upon returning the car the system didn't even believe I was driving the car. They have some great customer service at this location though. I usually seem to get an upgrade here.
