As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

I'm going to try it at the end of August at JAX. I have a Prius on reserve for 5 days at about $197 all in. I also have a Hertz rental as a backup but I can't pick it up till noon on Thursday (50% off weekend coupon). The Prius I can pick up when I arrive on Wends night.

I'm half tempted to just book a sub-compact and ask for the Prius as a Pres. Club member - what do you guys think the chances are of be being able to get a Prius off of a Sub-compact reservation at JAX as a Pres. Club pref. member are?

IDK about Pres. Club, but I am a Chairman's Club member & I am entitled to the fanciest car available when reserving & paying for Midsize. I have been upgraded to Cadillacs & Lincolns.

Will they upgrade to the "cool" cars though? My experience has been the same as you, as long as I book mid-size/intermediate I can get a DTS or a Convertable or a SUV. I've never asked for a cool-car upgrade...

I've gotten the following upgrades to cool cars as a President's Club member: Eclipse coupe/Spyder, Mustang coupe/convertible, 300 Touring, H3, Saab 93 convertible.

I've also seen preferred counter agents that I've gotten to know well show me a slip of paper showing that CTS, Prius and Solstices are generally off-limits to President's Club upgrades under normal circumstances.

I reply to to the Avis discount codes.

Be careful! You cannot use the Avis discount A153700 if you are not an Avis empolyee... It might let you book the reservation with this code but you will need to have a letter form an Avis manager to proove that you are an employee of Avis. They will not honor the rate or the discount code if you are not an Avis employee!! DO NOT BOOK A153700 IF YOU ARE NOT AN AVIS EMPLOYEE!!!

That list of discount codes above is getting old and stale. I would not rely on many of those codes there. Several are no longer active, and many good new ones have not been added. I continue to use G417900 with consistantly good results, free LDW, and never an I.D. issue.

I still find K444404 *NetJets* code awesome in pretty much every location I've booked. No ID issues whatsoever. ^

I'd bet that 75%+ of auto renters have personal auto policies that they are required to file a claim with first, before the credit card company.
The code I use most often (G417900) has LDW included, I still buy the extra primary coverage from Amex on every rental. I'm paying for additional insurance from Amex just in case there is an LDW issue. By the way, I have had 2 accidents in the past with this code and the LDW took care of everything without an issue. That being said. I still feel it's worth the $20 per rental, (not per day)to buy Amex Premium Insurance as backup, and know for certain that I do not have to go to my personal insurance company (or my pocket) in the event of an accident.
While your standard credit card coverage may be secondary in the USA,
for rentals overseas (ie Germany) it is PRIMARY. Your stateside policy does not usually provide coverage in Europe. When my parked car was damaged in Trier Germany, I was required to file a Police Report (they will mail it to AVIS but will not give you a copy) My VISA paid the whole total with no deductible
The European AVIS sends copies of forms and it takes 10 min to fill it out.
There is no questioning about what kind of discount you received as VISA's
insurance carrier only cares that the accident was reported to police as required by German law.

I also get UNLIMITED mileage in Europe. SO WE ALL have double checked.

What you get in Florida or other states in the US is completely different If you are concerned about that there are others that will get you unlimited miles,

Why am I not getting it to price out free LDW when I put it in on Avis.com?

Make sure with this one that you look at the mileage. I just tried booking a one day rental in SFO and it limits me to 100 miles.

Second the flagging on this. Two days in PDX gives me a great rate (sliced it by 60%), but gave me only 200 miles.

Be advised using some of these if you can not show you are a member of program they will not honor the rate at the counter and make you may a much higher rate.

K199060 - this is still a valid code. It is from the Orlando Convention and Visitor's Bureau (at least that's where I see the link and information). It gives good rates at MCO, and also at off-airport locations.
