Alert: You have to be logged in at avis.com to be able to specify an Frequent Traveler program. That field (which is now on the Rental Options page) disappears if you try to book without being logged in. (And, obviously, to be able earn an airline or hotel bonus, you have to be able to specify your airline or hotel program!)

While I think Q3 2017 was up and down, up as in massive demand due to hurricanes and weather diversions, but down due to still very bad inventory management at ERAC brands (prices went low especially as ERAC was getting delivery of new cars and still had a bunch of existing low miles cars on lots). I had to turn down ABG for any leisure use this summer because it was not competitive.
However, we may have to wait until after the early November announcement to see what ABG does on its promos. The trouble is I think these promos are not as popular anymore. So, if they are not driving volume, we may not get ABG to care so much.

New AA bonus
ABG hasn't realized how hard it is for customers to get miles in the new system. As such, they are running a bonus 500 miles for a rental for the remainder of 2017 if you have stored your AA number in your Preferred profile.
Or, ABG is not hitting its AA miles spend quota to maintain its miles purchase deal as there is either a lack of rentals or Avis customers rightly figure that it is too hard to use AA miles.

Avis has added a new AA promotion of 1k bonus miles for 3+ day rentals, through mid January 2018. The existing 3+ day promo through end of 2017 is much better though.. The new promo again uses a different AWD not coupon codes which precludes getting discount rates through other programs.
Also, Avis is one of the AA Holiday Bonus partners so you can stack a bit extra for both Avis or Budget rentals. One or two rentals in the promotion period should get you enough qualifying ABG miles to get the credit for one partner level. You must sign-up for the Holiday promotion before you get the qualifying partner miles apparently.
https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...onus-miles.jsp
I also already got credited for the 500 bonus miles for having AA number in my Preferred profile. Not sure if it will be for each rental -- will find out soon.

the promo for Aadavantage miles listed in the wiki is no longer valid -- K817127. See the terms here on the Avis website:
https://www.avis.com/car-rental/html.../aaweekly.html
Let me know if that is incorrect information.
The link to the terms in the wiki actually points to the promo K817165 for 1000 miles for a rental of 3+ days.
It's unclear if the Holiday Bonus miles will take the 500 bonus miles into account... I have gotten conflicting information from AA, some agents saying that only the base miles count for the holiday promotion (not bonus miles from promotions in addition)...

Well K817127 was extended to 12/31/17, but the website link at AA was changed to the other promotion.
I think you should get the miles if the rental is qualifying, but there is always a risk if you don't have a historic screen shot.
I also don't know if bonus miles will be counted or not for the holiday promo. There is not much one can do to assure that the rentals will count as a credit in that ladder.

I did a wiki cleanup for start of 2018. All links which now show 2018 expiration dates have had descriptions updated. Clearly expired promos (ie, promos that have dead pages and/or expired months ago) are now greyed out.
The link that was described as showing AA base earnings no longer shows that, instead shows an expired promo. I don't know what happened there.
Virtually all hotel promos from the past are dead, except for WynhamRewards. I dunno if there are any new ones to replace them.

I rcvd email from Virgin Flying Club for booking a min 2-day rental today thru Feb 28 for rentals from today thru June 30 = 500 miles plus 5,500 bonus miles. Valid US, Canada, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia on rental car groups C and above. In US C is intermediate. It says membership # must be presented at time of rental, but see no reason why you can't enter it at time of rez and they'd have it. There are no other codes or "book thru this link" that I see. If you rent for 7 days, yes you will get the standard 1000 miles plus the bonus. Nowhere do I see from the language that this is a one-time bonus. I'd post the link, but I'm having trouble on this site with posting content.

Virgin Atlantic promo: 6000 miles for rentals of 2 days or more. Great deal! No mention of any AWD or code needed, so you can use anything you want and you should get the miles as long as you select Virgin Atlantic as the airline! Unlimited miles until end date, so you can book it with some super cheap rates that you can find with your own codes.

ABG extended the AA bonuses until 8/14/2018, but they still require using a certain rate code.
I forgot to mention that ABG is a partner in the 5k ladder promotion that you need to sign-up for before getting the bonus miles:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...challenge.html
I personally feel that any Avis or Budget rental that earns AA miles within the period (before 9/30/2018) will get counted for the ladder even if you don't book at AA, but probably safer to do one rental reservation via the portal (with any rate/coupon code you want).
I have decided to add at the bottom a link to coupon codes for ABG because $ saving is almost always better than a bonus miles promotion these days.
I am not endorsing the website that lists the codes, but they do respond to many threads on FT and provide a good rate-checking service paid for via referral fees from its booking partner.

I removed the three lines for Starwood (which hadn't had any promos in ages anyway) since SPG as such is now gone (merged into Marriott).
And I did some update/cleanup to Alaska, American, and Southwest. With Southwest only the Budget link still works, if there is an Avis promo, there must a new link but I don't what it is.

Okay, I refreshed the Southwest promotions for ABG brands. They pretty much brought back (maybe they never left) the same bonus point promotions for certain interval rentals under the same codes. I found the new page links to support. For Avis/Budget on Southwest, only a certain coupon is required and does not require using a certain rate code unlike AA. I think the Budget promo for 1200/2400 is always better than the 1000 on 3+.
Also, on the AA 2500/5000 bonuses, be warned that only elite and CC holders can obtain the higher amounts of bonus. I wish they would explain the breakdown, but it looks like the bonuses include the miles already given under their base earn model with CC or status and is not a "full" extra bonus.
