Thanks
Yes, if you look at my post, I clearly wrote "Colombia". Anyway...

Thanks for the information!

I actually copy and pasted that bit of it directly from the email from the airline, and as Johnny said, it's not my typo. Honestly, I'm not sure why are you are keen on pointing fingers, anyway. Thanks again for the information about CTG.

Kacee, you don't have resident exit tax in your schedule of taxes

And it's definitely United

Fair enough.

Thanks for tracking that down.

Pretty pathetic when UA can't get the country name right.

Apologies to EtoileFilante.

Colombia Airport Tax U$36.- Resident Tax U$37.-

the same thing just happened to me
(3 tickets 3 times U$37.- stolen from me)
when calling avianca and LM
they pretended not to know what the problem is
just kept repeating that these are colombian taxes
I have not traveled jet - what can I do

Is this correct? I am not a resident of Colombia and thought that I didn't have to pay the steep resident exit tax. I called United to ask and they said it's right, but I'm still not convinced

What you do is

a) Quit with the hyperbole. Avianca has not stolen anything from you
b) Read the thread
c) Claim the money back when you travel as per the guidance in the thread
d) Have a nice visit (or three) to Colombia

I noted that the timbre is now just $25. Are we in line for a cheeky $10 refund from AV at check in ?

I noticed this too on a recent booking. It used to be $37, it is now $25, but the peso has lost about 35% of its value against the dollar, so I guess you are still paying the same in pesos and on that basis, you (and I) will not get a refund

FWIW - I just did a booking on AA in USD. They are now showing the Resident Exit Tax at USD $24.90.

Woo hoo!

It appears to be the case that starting this month, Colombia no longer requires exempt passengers to stop at the exemption office to get the form. That would make some of what we've advised here incorrect.

Mod - This may merit a modification to the title of this thread.

Hi. Just booked my first (and from what I've heard, not my last) trip to Colombia.

Flying there on a $$$ ticket with AA. Plan to book an awards ticket back to the US with Avianca.

Good thing I saw this thread as I thought the taxes were quite high.

Obviously Avianca don't know how long I'll be in the country as I bought a one way. I e-mailed them and they advised me to contact a local Avianca office. Will they be able to help before I fly, or only once I'm in Colombia?

Once in Colombia, I need a stamp from "Aéronautica Civil Exención de Impuestos"? The entry stamp on my passport isn't enough?

Finally, I plan to fly back to the US from San Andrés via Bogotá (seems like the best use of miles). Will I be able to get the refund in San Andrés? Or only in Bogotá?

Gracias!

Nope not any more. Just go to check in and they will give you your money back

This I do not know, I imagine it is wherever you get your boarding pass. So if they give you it in ADZ then ask for the refund too, if they cannot do it then you at least have another shot in Bogotá. If you have to get your boarding pass in Bogotá anyway then they will give you a refund there

AA just gave me 74000 pesos based on the fact that I entered Colombia on Monday and today is Friday but completely overlooking the fact that I am a resident so not eligible for a refund anyway.

None of the people at AA had a clue about how it works. Even the premium customer services lady that as an aside insisted "British Airways Sapphire is the same as AA Emerald"

I was not going to argue with a woman that just gave me 74000 COP

yea I wouldnt argue.

I'll try and get a refund in San Andres...guessin I can't do it sooner as they wont be sure I'm there less than 30 days
