Waitlist on United business on award ticket?

We're ticketed in business for the international segments on ANA, but only on economy on domestic (United). Is it a possibility to waitlist on United for that segment? I called United, and they told me they can't do anything about it.

Thanks

Unless you (luckily) experience irregular operations requiring UA to accommodate you on different flights, UA won't do anything about it. It's a LifeMiles ticket after all.

And LifeMiles are going to charge you a substantial change fee to upgrade a leg if it ever becomes available.

You could be happy if they only want to charge a fee... Usually they want to cancel the whole booking in such a case and you can do a new one online...

The change fee has long been much higher than the cancellation fee. That might be different now with the increased cancellation fees.

Of course the issue with cancelling and re-booking is if the award space is no longer there for your main long-haul...

Anyhow the point for the OP is that this sort of flexibility just doesn't happen with Lifemiles. You fly what you've booked... Forget waitlisting...

I don't know of any program that allows waitlisting for a partner award.
