It is not possible for UA to change the I to O booking code on OZ flight since there is no O inventory available.

For now it is not possible because it is 2 class, when it change to a 3 class, then call and ask if O class by that time open up for award or not. I mean is you reserve 1A or 2A, or 1K, or 2K on the 2 class, if it changed to a 3 class, see if your seats still hold.

2A and 2K are better seats as you can put your personal stuff at the space between the seat and the window, and wouldn't need to worry if your stuff move behind as there is a wall.

F in this 777 has basically no storage compartment in the seats at all except overhead bins. You may store small stuff under the so called "visitor seat", little seat to use when your seat go to full flat position. But that little space usually FA use to store to duvet.

Asiana (OZ) F ORD-HKG with a twist on intra asia UA F and NH C (lots of pics)

Thats odd - we were assigned seats 1G and 1K

Then the relieve pilot take 1A or 1D.

Not sure why you choose aisle and window, if you are travelling together, why not have 1D, 1G, or 2D, 2G ?

It's a good point to seat yourself on the 1st 2 rows in case of equipment change and hoping the seat will stay the same. However, how close to the departure date does OZ change equipment?

What do you mean by no upgrade from c to f? Do you mean that only in ORD-ICN route? I have gotten c to f upgrad from ICN to LAX several month ago. I inquired about it at the time of check in and had no problem. There were total of 3 passenger incl. myself.

I don't think OZ has offer any upgrade from C to F, as most of the times there are only 1 or 2 pax on board in F, my return flight ICN-ORD I was the only "pax" in F, while C and Y 100% full. They probably follow the same rule with SQ and NH, no such thing for upgrade to F, they would rather leave F empty as it is.

Upgrade from C to F as award C ? award F ? full fare C ? OZ Diamond ? Diamond + ? Or is it an op up situation you are not aware of being Y is overbooked ?

So how come I couldn't even upgrade from C to F on HKG-ICN being told F is open and I am *G ?

Was yours C award? Mind was a purchased C class. Not sure if it was a full fare or not. It might have been but regardless, it was a paid C. I was and still am lowly OZ gold.

No I was not, it was F award. Booked in C when no F available, then F open up, still wouldn't be able to move up to F.

You got the upgrade because you are OZ*G plus paid C, but I doubt it happen often at all especially on long haul. If it is that simple, F would be pack all the times, but in reality is not true. You can ask to see in this forum how many OZ*G has successful been able to sit in F for free.

It is the same thing for NH when they sell as 2 class on the 77W, only NH*G plus paid C would get to sit in F. So don't mislead other FTers that you can buy a C ticket, then ask at the check in and get to sit in F for free, as this is not a common practice.

Hold up. I never said it was FREE. I did pay 30K miles for it.
I interpreted your previous post as upgrading from C - F WITH THE MILES was impossible. It may have been a miscommunication. Regardless I did not specify that, so yes, the upgrade from C to F WITH miles at the ticket counter at the time of check in and had no problems.

Spoke to Asiana and they confirmed that the plane seating is 2-2 in Executive First.

There is only one aircraft have 2+2 in F, the old 74M, enjoy the F seat that is 15+ years old from the early to mid 90s.

Btw, are you sure you are flying OZ ? Or actually it is codeshare ? There is no such thing called Executive First with OZ.
OZ only have First, Business, and Travel class.

I don't know if the agent is wrong about F is 2-2, or is it somehow the old 74M back on ORD-ICN, as it should still be the 3 class 777 with 1-2-1 sitting in F.

But yes, it is very bad on the old 74M, basically everyone try to avoid as much as they can. Non-existant IFE, small screen with 4 movies run in a loop, poor quality as it is rather blurry, some PTV in some seats may not work at all. However, the seats does go 180 degrees flat, but it only have two buttons to control the seat, one for the legrest to rise, and the other button for the recline, the seat cushion is fixed position, it wouldn't go forward or backward when it recline. There is a metal bar serve as foot rest, it makes very uncomfortable for your feet if you are a tall person. If you are seated at the window with a seatmate, very hard to climb out when the other person leg rest all the way up. No lumbar support or lower back circulation either, as back then in the early 90s doesn't have the technology. If you can sleep for 9, 10 hours solid inflight then it is fine, (ORD-ICN westbound is 14 hours) if not, you better prepair for your own entertainment before you board. Flying in this seat for long haul make me so appreciate UA old F seat.

Btw, what date is it ? Does your itnerary said it is 747 ?
