Angry Asiana Award Travel Discrimination - Hotel/Tour

My wife and I used 240,000 Aeroplan (Star Alliance) miles to fly F to Asia later this month. We are booked and confirmed First Class Asiana: JFK-ICN, arriving 05:10. We depart Asiana ICN-SGN at 19:10, some 14 hours later. I have read on this Board that Asiana provides Hotel or Tour if the layover exceeds 8 Hours. As no mention of this offer can be found on the Asiana Website, I emailed Asiana Customer Service, to make inquiry. They replied that while they acknowledge that our layover exceeds 8 hours, they will not provide Hotel or Tour for passengers who made their reservations using Star AllianceTravel Miles. The Hotel/Tour is only available to paying passengers!
BTW, economy ticket ,same route: USD $872! First Class, my a.. !

Would anyone have any suggestions? I haven't yet replied to their email.
Many thanks

This is common amongst all airlines. No en-route expenses are allowed on awards.

Is it possible to pay for the tour if you are on F reward?

This is common on many carriers. In fact, I cannot think of one that provides transit hotel/tours who does so for award travelers.

If the dayroom & tour are that important, you could redeposit your miles and purchase two F tix for that route, which include the hotel & tour. Current cost is US$11,409 per person.

Welcome to FT!

Welcome to FT, Dr B! This is not uncommon for the industry. Some airlines have limousine service to and from the airport (OZ offered this as well) which also is only available to paying pax.
OZ will do the same if you book with Asiana Club miles even when you are a Diamond+.

Those tours can easily be booked when you get there plus I would recommend the Hyatt rather than the free hotels.

Many tours to book. If you have time, do a DMZ tour!

The Kempinski near FRA provides complimentary day rooms to LH F pax, no distinction paid vs. award.

I have purposely built in 12 hour layover to take that tour as I was under impression that is ok for an award travel. Now since that is gone I need to do something with the time.

So what is this DMZ tour you are talking about? Link?

A good starting place is http://www.freedomtour.co.kr/

They do have the DMZ tour, but beware you don't get INTO the DMZ, you can see into it from on high. Instead you visit the Civilian controlled zone- to get into Panmunjeom you have to go with military escort.
Still an interesting trip- if you can do so, pay extra for the ride down into the Tunnel. The walk down is great- up, not so!

Thanks! My wife can't walk too far so we are limited either on the some sort of bus tour or one where she can take her travel scooter with her all the time (we will have it with us).

I booked the DMZ tour via USO and there is one where you don't have to walk far. You essentially go from the bus to a site, back on the bus, to a site etc.

Alternatively, just book a tour through Seoul which is essentially a bus tour with some short stops.

That's a lot of mileage you got there lol. I think you should just pay for the tour, it won't be much anyway compare to the 1st class tickets. Wish I could fly 1st class...

ps: if this' your first time to VN I can help you with any questions.
